How much adhesive needs removing between tiles & covering a chip Discussion Thread

How much adhesive needs removing between tiles & covering a chip

Hi,

Looking for advice mainly on how much adhesive I should remove from between the tiles in a shower before grouting. I stupidly didn't remove a lot of it before it thoroughly dried, and while there is room to put grout in the gaps between tiles over the adhesive (in other words, the adhesive doesn't fully fill the voids), there is quite a lot of adhesive in the gaps as you can see below, and the inner edges of the...

Sealing limestone question Discussion Thread

Sealing limestone question

Hi all,

We had an outdoor limestone patio laid at the start of June (finished circa 07/06/24). We are yet to grout it. I'd like to seal it before doing so and I have bought Lithofin Stain stop. I have read a lot regarding its application however I have received conflicting information about when it is best to do so. I have been told that waiting to seal it doesn't matter/ we need to wait 13 weeks/ we need to wait a year to let it effloresce etc.

What is...

Tiling on Universal Shower Bases Discussion Thread

Tiling on Universal Shower Bases

Hi there - I’m hoping to get some advice.

I’m a builder, based in Melbourne, Australia. I’ve recently done a few bathroom renovations, using a Universal Shower Base, where a fibreglass shower base is installed and then tiled over.

These jobs were all completed in the last few months, using the same tiler, but I’ve had call backs on two of them, where the grout has cracked/fallen out. One of these jobs, I’ve been back to twice with the tiler, who has...

Advice please, bathroom fitter has dot and dabbed tiles!

Hi all, I'm hoping you can help with some feedback, please

My parents are currently having a new bathroom installed, all stripped back to bare walls and floor.

The fitter has done/hasn't done some things that I'm 99% sure aren't good practice, but he has convinced my Dad it is fine.

I have only done Able skills basic tiling course, but I was soaking up info like a sponge, so maybe I'm wrong, but so far my research and gut...

Bathroom leak disaster- wet room the culprit?

Hi there,

Several days ago the plaster board of my living room ceiling collapsed, as a result of a leak in the bathroom above. There were water marks on the ceiling for months, but these were not getting worse and the ceiling showed no signs of being wet/cracking before collapsing. We're trying to narrow down the issue, and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

In the bathroom we have a toilet, washhand basin and wet room. There have...

Tiling inside a shower

Hi, first timers here... I am tiling my bathrooms and prefer the look & neatness of tiling inside the glass shower screen, especially on one of my bathroom where the ceramic have a very geometric pattern and would not look nice from outside the shower area and I would like to install another end bead next to the supporter for the glass screen to slide into... Is there a way around this? Many thanks and kind regards Char.

Large floor tile adhesive help

Hi all,
My 1st post and just wanting some help/reassurance on a DIY bathroom refurb.

I’m putting down 800x800x10mm porcelain floor tiles. Floor area is 2m x 2.7m, 18mm chipboard. I added loads of noggins, glued and screwed down the boards and have over-boarded with Marmox 10mm on Keraquick (no latex), screwed at 300mm centres. It was rock solid with no signs of deflection (jumping up and down/glass of water etc!). Then, because I wanted to make up...

Gemini Polished Eagle 60x60 brown tile Discussion Thread

Gemini Polished Eagle 60x60 brown tile

Hello

I'm about to buy 37 sq mtrs of Gemini Polished Eagle 60x60 in brown for my kitchen and hallway. Can anyone tell me whether this is a good tile. Or if anyone has laid it in this colour. Was thinking of either the brown or ivory but the brown seems to work better in our home.

The price I have is £28 a sqr metre I apparently is a good deal?

If I go for the brown, would you agree that limestone grout is the best choice?

Many thanks...
