Advice needed regarding sealing? Or Are these tiles faulty? Discussion Thread

Advice needed regarding sealing? Or Are these tiles faulty?

I've recently bought Johnson 'Orkney Stone' ceramic floor tiles from B&Q. Paid to have them professionally laid. At the time I asked if they needed sealing. The tiler told me since they were ceramic (not porcelain or natural stone) they didn't need to be sealed.

B&Q website states these are glazed which put my mind at rest.

They've been down a week and they're terrible. They seem to attract dirt, soak up marks and every...

Waterproofing options for new shower room Discussion Thread

Waterproofing options for new shower room

Hi,

A newcomer here and thank you to anyone with the patience to read my drivel.

I am renovating an old stone house, have just finished a kitchen, and now need to install a first floor shower room (1.7m x 2.35m).

The previous owner had the room to a state of green plasterboard walls, and chipboard floor. There are hot and cold feeds to one of the long walls, for a vanity, and hot and cold feeds - and evacuation - to the end wall, for a...

Mitering tiles and which epoxy Discussion Thread

Mitering tiles and which epoxy

A question about mitering and matching epoxy colour

I'll be working with some pinkish matt porcelain tiles where the core is the same colour as the glaze, I've found the perfect ratio of two Kerakoll grouts to match the tile colour for grouting to try and have the grout lines disappear (if anyone cares, 3x warm white to each 1x venetian red). However my experience with mitering is limited to just getting nice cuts. I've never installed them at eye level...

Have you ever worked for a National Tile Supplier or even just smaller big chain tile suppliers?

Have you ever worked for a National Tile Supplier or even just smaller big chain tile suppliers? I'll tell you a funny story about how I got a job with Topps Tiles Newcastle and got top sales every month while the manager was an utter arse. Phillip Cuthburtson (Will Check Spelling Tomorrow). Works for Walls and Floors now as an area sales manager and sent him a PM on Linked In that was a...

Tilers Community Midnight Messages Whilst Drunk Send Shivers Down Manufacturers Spines

Woke up this morning to some abusive messages from Sam Hoffman of the Facebook Group Tilers Community.

Sam Hoffman of Hoffman Tiling and Bathrooms Limited, of which we have all company accounts and persons involved, sent abusive messages we assume whilst drunk on Friday evening. They regretted it instantly so we woke up to the following.

Tile up to or undercut door frames / linings? Discussion Thread

Tile up to or undercut door frames / linings?

Hi, sorry if this is a silly question but I can't seem to find a definitive answer. I've got a lot of tiling to do in our self build and currently it's just the door linings in place, no architrave etc yet. Should the tiles be fitted up next to the door linings with a small expansion gap and then siliconed or should I cut the bottoms of the frames and slide the tiles underneath?

The latter would look better but isn't there the potential...

One of new floor tile is making a random clicking noise Discussion Thread

One of new floor tile is making a random clicking noise

450 x 450 porcelain tiles were laid on the bathroom floor recently. One of the tile sometimes makes a clicking noise.

We have wooden floor in the bathroom and tiler put the Becker boards with screws and put some liquid/paint on Becker board for waterproof and then used adhesive for tiles.

I was wondering if only that one tile needs to be removed and then put it back with more adhesive?

One of new floor tile is making a...

Skirting tile price Discussion Thread

Skirting tile price

Hello one and all,
I have a 240m2 floor tiling job to price, including a tile upstand edged with tile trim, tiles 1m length, going into several rooms.

What i'm asking is if there is a standard linear metre rate, or base it on a day for estimated time taken.
I feel it needs to be a decent rate, as it mullers your back and big toe joints when doing them all day!

Thanks in advance,
Paul
