Continuity testing

Guys,

was wondering if you could help carried out a continuity test on R2 today on a ring circuit and was getting a open circuit. Tested R1 and got around 22 ohm connected R1 + R2 and got 46 ohm but the R2 is showing open circuit on its own. Have checked all sockets to see if there is a loose cable but nothing please help. Also did a RCD test on circuit and rcd tripped at 14.7 which is o.k so how is this going down to earth

How are you taking R2 tests ? wander lead and screw on socket ? could have drylining box or plastic lugs if so

when you say R2 rest are you talking end to end ?
is it twin & earth or singles in conduit ?

Hey.

Have you checked your meter and leads on another circuit to make sure they're ok??

Sounds like a high resistance/open connection on the ring there somewhere, you havn't got a full loop but obviously there is an earth in the circuit because you have an R1+R2 reading albeit very high.

n-n was the same as L-L any ideas

Yes sounds like a break in cpc ! rcd test on each socket will still work down one leg.

yes circuit is about 30 meters any ideas

There must be a break somewhere but not necessarily behind a socket outlet.

As been said, best thing to do is split into 2 radials and follow it round till you find the part of the circuit that has the problem.

Not an easy task but reasonably easy to do.

checked leads all O.K would this still pass on a cert

R1 + R2 prob high as you have a break in the cpc ! dont matter about rcd test it still works down either cpc leg find break and your get better R1 + R2 reading.

hi peter its funny no reading on R2 but( R1+R2) = 0.48
caculation for 30 meters 0.58 so not far off you have cpc,s loose in a socket
thatsw if you have checked your meter is functioning properly
