Yo folks,

just having a whale of time on this Friday eve reading the OSG and GN3 and i have noticed that in some places readings are named R1 - R2 and in others, r1 or r2?

I could just be being very pedantic but is there a difference?

(The first person to say "Yes, R1 and R2 both use capital letters" does not pass go and does not collect 200 quid!)

I like the question, nice and clear.

Before we jump in, what do you think the difference is?

there is a difference. they mean different things. have a read up and if you still not sure, poast again and all will be explained ( just as an aside, the number of posts on this forum where they are wrongly used is horrendous, so you are not alone)

Yo Tidy,
Good question, notation, correct use of symbols etc is very important.
It shows that you understand what you're doing for starters and makes it easier for people answering because they don't need to question you to clarify the situation before they offer up an answer.

Pedantic, No, not when you're talking technical.

I'll have you for misuse of the apostrophe though! :-)

Well i thought the difference was between ring final and radial circuits. However i am unsure! I thought i vaguely remembered from college but i am now flipping through the books looking for a definition.

Thanks for the replies (i'll get back to you as soon as i find the definite answer).

And sorry for using the wrong section Murdoch, let the powers that be move this when they see it :)

Well i have read 612.2 and its not there.....

and ive read the symbols section which has R1 and R2 but mentions nothing of r1 r2 or rn?

I want to suggest that the lower case is used for individual measurements and that the upper case is reserved only for the measurement of 'R1+R2' however i don't believe that to be the case either because i am sure i have seen R1 used on its own

I was joking when I wrote this.

Like your attitude, come back after some more reading, you are on the right tracks.

Time to find the corkscrew!

hang on!!! is it that the R1 and R2 is the maximum for the circuit?! and the r1 or r2 is a reading taken at some stage throughout the circuit?!
