    Scottish Certification

Getting a building warrant - mygov.scot - https://www.mygov.scot/building-warrant/ I used google, it's quicker than waiting for a reply on here.

    Just passed 18.................th

It's not very reassuring to know you can get all the questions on 'fundamental principles', 'protection for safety' and 'inspection and testing' wrong and still pass. :(

Help installing exterior wall mounted up lighting

Why blank off the top entry hole in the "Y" trouser box when these are widely available? https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/CO20BXUG.html

Test failed due to missing RCD

Think of it as cheap insurance - the additional RCD reduces the risk of electric shock for your tenants, and can also reduce the risk of fire Doepke RCD Video.

2 way & intermediate pir is there such a beast

Try searching for "Corridor function". Tridonic are one supplier of these type of ballasts.

RCD Test Results on Condition Report

The model certificates show the minimum required information. How hard is it to add an extra page detailing the RCD test times of individual RCD protected sockets? That's what I do, and it has been favourably commented on during my Part P assessment yesterday.

    Monthly intermittent fault

Maybe not so simple terms, but everything you ever wanted to know about RCD "nuisance" tripping is here Marc's Technical Pages: Power Quality Symptoms and Solutions - Nuisance Tripping

Alterations on old rewireable consumer unit

I have wired one in advance before. Leave enough slack in the wring and Pythagoras reckons it can be passed through the hole in the worktop. Unless you have a circular hob.

    25mm tails maintenance free joint

I'm not suggesting hiding JBs is good practice - merely stating that at least the plumbers have some proper guidance on what is considered "accessible" in their industry. Regarding loft spaces, everyone I look in seems to have 18" of fibreglass insulation covering pipes, cables, downlights &...

    25mm tails maintenance free joint

A carpet hardly makes them inaccessible. As long as you know where the connections are. You've already found them, so note it on the report for the next guy - it could be you in 10 years time. I've posted about this before, the plumbing regs (WRAS) don't consider things such as ceramic tiles...

    Neutral isolation for TT supply

Re: Neurtral isolation for TT supply You could argue that the disruption has been minimised - you are not inconveniencing any of the neighbouring installations. What happens when the service fuse fails, or the overhead lines get taken out by a falling tree, or the single up-front time delayed...

    No circuit identification and EICR

Having "done the leg work", you now know what the circuits are. What's wrong with getting a pen (or a label printer) and marking up the board while you're there- would take only about 10 seconds per circuit? Or are they going to pay you to visit and perform this task at a later date?

Lighting Circuit Nuetrals in Domestic Light Switches

Is that why sockets, switches and cooker control units all have built-in cable restraints? Lots of juggling around especially with 6 & 10 mm cables, and quite likely that a "Part P" decorator will pull them free to tuck the wallpaper into the box or paint round them. Maybe if the JB is in an...

20mm PVC conduit crossover / hopover?

Cheers. Thought they'd sneaked a change in! And I agree bend it yourself - a ready made 90 degree bend costs almost as much a 3m length of tube. I've never seen a pre-made "cross-over", presumably because if you wanted to cross a 4" soil pipe, a 40mm waste pipe and a 20mm conduit you'd have...

Which reg is that then? I must have missed that change.
