Hi,

Got a call from a local hotel / Indian restaurant this afternoon, wanting a "three pin plug on the wall" for their new fryer...

Went to look as on 2 mins up the road from home, turns out they need a three phase supply for it, see photos.

The board is probably 10m or so to where the want the outlet.

Ok, so two things, the consumer unit is full of gaps, no RCD, and he wants a new circuit, and he wants the outlet above the fryer on a stainless back... hmmm

Oh he wants the outlet next to the plug... Oh which again, not exactly a sensible place is it, you can see the old fryer in position in one of the photos, oh and above is a huge fan hood thing covering the ceiling.

Interestingly the lead from the fryer has a brown, blue and green/yellow ? Yet its 415v?

Any thoughts?

Should be straight forward job, just lay down regulations to him about positioning of switch etc..
sort the cable issue out, jiggle a few circuits around to free up a three phase way in the board

or you could always put a ridiculous price in....

I can't say as I'm really looking at dismantling his kitchen, does anyone fancy doing this with me as commercial kitchens are not something I've ever touched, ideally it really needs a local rotary isolator too I would imagine.

Gaps in the DB is a few pennies to fix whilst you are there, just bung it on the price.

And on the subject of price bartering is a normal part of the Indian culture and they expect you to start with a high price and haggle it down a bit. Don't be put off by this or go having any tantrums if you don't allow for this in your price.

As has been said you are probably looking at a machine which has been been converted to single phase operation. It obviously started its life using 2 phases and neutral (not to be confused with a proper 2 phase system, but that's irrelevant here)
It will just be 2x240V heating elements in there.

I'd check on how the single phase conversion has been done but otherwise just crack on with a Cooker switch and cooker outlet plate behind it, or a 32A socket if you prefer.

Does falcon still exist ?do you know how old the item is ? does it work now?
And it will need a reasonable length lead as these items should be pulled out for a thorough kitchen clean weekly at least

Why are you asking if someone will come and do the job with you? its a pretty straight forward job and easy enough for a electrician to complete on his/her own

Can only presume your recently qualified or Electrical Trainee?

Thanks all for your comments, advice and suggestions. The following is probably pretty boring for most, and is simply a summary of how the job...
