Hi,

Got a call from a local hotel / Indian restaurant this afternoon, wanting a "three pin plug on the wall" for their new fryer...

Went to look as on 2 mins up the road from home, turns out they need a three phase supply for it, see photos.

The board is probably 10m or so to where the want the outlet.

Ok, so two things, the consumer unit is full of gaps, no RCD, and he wants a new circuit, and he wants the outlet above the fryer on a stainless back... hmmm

Oh he wants the outlet next to the plug... Oh which again, not exactly a sensible place is it, you can see the old fryer in position in one of the photos, oh and above is a huge fan hood thing covering the ceiling.

Interestingly the lead from the fryer has a brown, blue and green/yellow ? Yet its 415v?

Any thoughts?

That's a bit rude isn't it, no I'm not by the way, im not very qualified to level 3, and hold level 3 test and inspec and periodic and am NICEIC Approved Contractor thanks.

Thanks for the comments everyone, my point was, having never touched a commercial kitchen I tend, well not to stay away from what I know, but more a case of I don't touch what I do not fully understand, its not the connection of the cooker thing, but more the how the heck am I meant to cut a hole in the steel back plate etc, do I rip it all out? Just a few areas here that I am not familiar with nor work with on a daily basis.

Well if you read post 16 you will see i apologised if it sounded offensive, however since you have threw your toys out the pram....

Im sure to become NIC Approved you need to show 2 commercial jobs, yet you cant even figure out this very simple one.... the mind boggles

Don't worry mate I couldn't do it either. It's a shame someone isn't prepared to come and show you what you either don't know or are unsure of but there you go. Someone could just tell him how to do it on here but then I guess your shooting yourself in the foot. Some electricians are very secret squirel. Seems to me that If you knew what you were doing you could charge for this sort of info

Re cutting the hole, you draw it out and cut into it with your newly acquired multi-tool with the metal cutting bit ad spec's is your uncle. how you get your feed to it is another story.OR grab your angle grinder and go for it. I was never fond of metal s/backs anyway.

getting back to the board might be difficult with the extract hood in the way
steel conduit might be needed due to heat issues
getting payment might be another as i have found in the past

It would be a right pain in the bum getting power to it at a guess having looked as all the walls are stainless from floor to ceiling in rather big pieces, plus there's a massive hood covering the whole area.

Obviously a new circuit is going to need RCD protection too, so then comes the next problem that there's no rcd...

Are you having a laugh?
I can see the fixings on that panelling from here, there's a socket already in place, so routing some more cables is probably quite easy.
RCBOs?!?!?!

Get in there early and get stuck in!!!

Thanks all for your comments, advice and suggestions. The following is probably pretty boring for most, and is simply a summary of how the job...
