Check this put, this wasn't the problem. But found it whilst looking and felt I had to take a photo!

100+ year old house, lady says there is a banging coming from the electrics, I said ok I'll take a look, she said it's above the bathroom ceiling, like a firework going off, a large cracking noise and a flash that you see from the loft hatch.

The house looked over 100 years old inside, looked like the original decor etc, I didn't go up to look at what it was I. The loft as the entry to the loft was via the hatch above the stairs and it would have been sodding dangerous getting I to it, I said it's too risky.

anyway, here's a pic

Why do you say theres something with the keyboard? I was on my phone.

The circuit, I switched it off and explained to her the risks, but there was no way I was going in the loft, it was not just a conventional access hatch, it was right over a very large stair well, huge drop, you would have had to put the ladder on the landing and leaned it on the stair wall over the banister, it wasn't worth it.

How did you find the offending cct and what was it? And did you recommend someone to her that would be man enough to go up and take a look BEFORE the house burns down?

So you don't fix or even investigate what sounds like an immediate fire risk, but instead you take pictures of other parts of the installation.

Yes it looks bad, but it sure as hell ain't as bad as the sound of fireworks in the roof.

If you can get into the loft on your own then call a mate out to help you.

I did switch the ciruit off and put a warning tag thing on it, I did give her the number of two other people who may want to look...

Having spoken to her today, she informs me one of them has been round and also didn't want to go into the loft due to how dangerous it was.

I did tell her theres a fire risk up there, sorry but I would rather not break my legs falling down someones stairs in the dark, call me irresponsible for not looking, but I would rather live another day.

I told her of the dangers and gave her some other numbers to try, I could do no more.
