Took me 2 mins to find out that the apprentice forgot to 2nd fix a socket behind the sofa and 5 mins to install. A ten mins talking to the apprentice took us in total 17 mins! Could have done half a cu change by then ;);).

After reading this lot, I am on par with Telectrix regards time and cost.

Anyone can make a pretty looking new installation consumer unit, I have yet to come across an old consumer unit change, with over 6 ways where the cables are long enough and all CPCs are there to make a neat job.

£150 for a new CU installed? no thanks I have better things to do.

I am glad I dont live near the OP James the spark, up against someone advertising those rates and being asked if I could do it cheaper or the same, might as well turn the phone off!

come on vernam616 come clean.

I've always enjoyed your posts thus far, this thread seems to have taken a strange tack ...?

whats the deal my fine fellow?

for decent size board i allow a day to fit and test.guarantee ill find a james hunt of a neutral earth fault on most jobs n all.
last hager +mcbs and rcbos came to well over 150 on its own never mind any labour, tails etc.150 quid is 1986 prices.thats a right tight price you have set yourself there tho. i.e. rockbottom.

Ha ha ha, it must be a wind up.

Tomorrow I'm finishing off a house rewire. House is occupied by disabled children so haven't been able to have any circuits off at any length off time due to tv, computers etc + it was half term last week.

Anyway I've got the house running from the old and new cu, (only one circuit on the new BTW). I'll time myself on how long it takes on the 'power off day' to install another 7 circuits into a new board, dead test, power up, test, cover on and explain about an RCD to the parents. Erm I'm thinking 45 mins should do it ;).

even if i could do a cu change in twenty minutes properly there is no way i would, its bad enough trying to extract cash out of some of them when you have been there a few hours let alone 30 minutes including putting the tools away.

I am replacing a fuse-board with 10 way Wylex board this Saturday and I have quoted them £375.00; no one squabbled. It’s a three bed house converted into two flats and it has all the markings of a DIY’er showing his wiring skills. God know, how long I am going to be there tracing back the cables.

Could this be done for £150.00? I doubt it! :stuart:
