Yes i agree that price wars are going on and ppl are selling themselves short, if ppl are struggling for work then £100 is better than zero for a days work, however i find it amazing that ppl seem to justify charging peanuts for a skill by reasoning that ; well it only takes s few hours etc.

As stated earlier show me a car garage that charges less than £40 an hour, show me a solicitor who will work for £12 an hour or show me a doctor etc etc... Just because you cant see it doesnt mean its less dangerous or unskilled.
Downturn or no downturn we need to show ppl that what we do is worthy of what we all charge

but if we all stuck together and all charged the going rate, they would have to pay the going rate ( in a dream world)

reality is, paddy from down the pub who's a gardener will change their board for a pint and a pack of nobby's nuts

Yes i totally agree, not many ppl will mess with gas but most will try their hand at diy electrics, why is this? Maybe because ppl realise the dangers of gas but dont realise the real dangers of something you cant see or smell!
We need to be putting pressure on the niceice etc and government to educate the general public more.
After all i wonder if the statistics for electrical injurys and deaths are alot higher than gas related

people do try a bit diy gas work, normally involves a bit of bypass pipe work..:nono:

well each to their own the picture at the beginning is incorrect the sequence of neutrals are all wrong proof that trying to rush a board to say you can do it the fastest doesnt always prove anything but in fairness vernam you did say that it wasnt you that connects dbs from scratch in twenty minutes but your dbs are wrong from new "well done" lol.

I like to ferrel/tag up the board also and is more proffessional in my opinion also too much copper showing in the later pictures you may mention that the busbar is exposed but busbars HAVE COVERS NOW and spare ways on busbars should have covers on them so no excuse mate. I wouldnt be too immpressed in undercharging and rushing a db change it doesnt prove anything it makes you look bad tbh

i mentioned i did a db change other day tp+n boiler house db like for like obviously a different situation but from safe isolation to identifying and marking each circuit and removing the old db measuring and drilling out new db to fit existing conduit couplers and fitting new db connecting and ferreling and testing took me about 3 hours and i think that was a good time to do it in that included tracing two circuits also but i suppose im not a self employed spark so may be different to you self employed boys

british general. and they are good boards. same company do a range of accessories. budget price. quality reasonable.

yes the picture at the front does seem wrong for a board change where are the short wires the ones that wont stretch i think to do it correctly takes longer than an hour

also silver surfer i like to support my local whole salers if every one started going to b and q more wholesalers would shut
Dont get flustered mate it was an observation rather than an advertisement.
An earlier poster was enquiring where to get a CU so cheaply.
If everyone started going to B&Q maybe your local wholesaler would drop his prices.

the problem is that the manufacturers are selling to B&Q at a lower price than to the wholesalers. the wholesaler can't possibly sell a board for £50 when he's paying £55 for it, can he?

You clearly havnt bothered to read the full thread have you

Wind your neck in and read it properly before issuing such a kentish post

The picture as i have stated a few pages back was just a OLD picture i was using as a example to show that it can be done in 45 minutes and neat

The picture was from a new build installation when 16th EDITION was in force hence the single split board and YES it is my picture, i have nothing to prove to your or anyone else and do have more pictures, i take pictures because i use them in my portfolio, if you want to steal my picture for your own portfolio your quite welcome :)

Domestically trained? = No, i have worked in all sectors and like to think i have a equal experience of all

Not once did i say that the definition of a good electrician is speed, it just so happens i feel confident enough in my work that i can be a little faster, sorry if you have to take 2-3 days to do the job, just the way it gos matey

He was doing 3 a day on a price, once they are done guess what happens? YOU GO HOME and enjoy the rest of the day whilst still earning £100 per D/B (YES FOR YOU EAGLE EYES THATS A DIFFERENT PRICE TO MINE AS WE DONT WORK TOGETHER ANYMORE)

Wow, well you certainly put me in my place.

We are on an open forum and I certainly won't wind my neck in. I'm quite within my rights to give my opinions which I have.

If you are trying to make the argument that £150 is the going rate for a CURRENT cu change, because you can do it so fast and still keep it neat, why offer up a photo of a NEW INSTALL 16th editon cu as proof?? If I were to claim I could rewire a lived in house full of furniture in half a day, would you take pics of a new build install as proof of this? Incidentily, whether the pic is yours or not, it still proves nothing other than you need to practice installing tails. Portfolio?? Not something I've ever done, or felt I've needed to. Maybe I've missed a trick but I wouldn't of thought most customers care what the inside of thier cu looks like. More something for the tilers or kitchen fitters I would think.

Confused by this, it seems to imply that the £150 you have stated is something like a subby pricework figure, in which case most of this thread has been a waste of time. In any case if you can do a board in 21 minutes why would you limit yourself to 3 a day?? why not earn twice as much?? Maybe hes like the rest of us, overcharging and scared of graft.

Here you go, sort this out in 20 mins:-

[ElectriciansForums.net] Fuse box installed for £150 what!!!

Ok small 3 phase board in a working man's club. The gaffer and me running around like headless chickens to test everything correctly and done in a day so they could open that night. Sorry I didn't take a photo of the finished product but it was good.
