swa termination

Hi,

im designing an installation and pricing for a large property, i plan to feed sub mains using swa. Maybe a silly question, can i gland the swa in a stud wall and bring the cores through the plaster to the consumer units? customer wants to see no cables and id much rather use swa than twin for sub mains. Was planning to run another cpc along side the swa on the very rare chance the swa gland isnt as tight as was when first installed

Are you seriously considering terminating a SWA in a wall just left floating about?! I think that a good option here as driverman suggested is to fix an adaptable box in the stud wall and consumer unit in front.

Little confused by the first post fella, before everyone jumps on the bandwagon and starts slating you can you confirm what exactly you mean about the way you intend to connect the armoured to the DB? many thanks

I suppose we can't jump to the conclusion that it would just be left floating although I have seen it done like this a few times before! Not good practice.

The swa would be cleated securely through out its length. I was planning on running swa down in the stud wall securely fixed into adaptable box then through into the consumer unit but my concern is the accessibility to the swa gland in the wall and either run a 3 core or separate earth cable so not being reliant upon the gland termination . Sorry if I was unclear chaps!

Don't worry about the SWA gland in the wall, just do it up properly, use an extra core for earth and do the gland up properly!

Use three core with a seperate earth and as long as the armour is earthed properly one end, who cares. Just make sure it has some strain relief.

I've done it various ways in the past - either glanding to a dappy box, into a length of steel trunking bolted up the stud or even just glanding off on it's own (with banjo, of course!) - but only ever with a core as earth and the knowledge that the other end of the armour glanding is inspectable.
