Hi all

Some of ya might remember, i started my nephews bathroom last year complete rip out and new everything.
anyway i asked about his shower 10.kw triton, got good feed back and told nephew he needs qualified
part p reg sparky, job went ---- up when he lost job etc, but is back on the go again ...today a sparky has
gone and wired up the shower BUT he has used the old wire from old shower , the problem is if my memory
serves me i was told that a 10.5 kw needs to be wired with 10mm wire ? the old shower was 8.5 and 6mm wire.

I told my nephew that he should not have used the old wire, but sparky said i'm not the electrician he his ?
should he have given my nephew a part p certificate of the job. ?

Your right get a qualified sparky in.

Well it's not a like for like replacement so that excuse for not certing cannot be used. I think some fairly serious questions have to be asked of this "spark"
Has your nephew paid for this job?

does this image ring a bell?

sorry guys my mistake the shower is 9.5kw triton aspirante, i'm not sure if he has paid the guy yet.
should this sparky give him the certificate up front ? ..i know for a fact the cable run is from his front room
up wall through conduit, into and along ceiling, up through another cupbaord tacked to the frame of door
into loft and down to switch, in total i would say at least 16m of cable to the shower.

look i remember you....your in bradford you are....
and i offered to come and have a look at it for you and give you a quote when having viewed the job that would have been based on offering you value for money....
so i see now its all gone arse up....

All work in bathrooms is a notifiable exercise under Part P, and is also a special location under BS7671. So...there should be TWO bits of paper in the system at least.

Slightly less bothered about 9.7kW @240v on a 6mm if I'm honest, it's only just over the maximum limit for 6242Y in a conduit.

You probably told him what you would do and he's gonna do it himself.
Happens a lot.

what rating is the breaker for the shower? that's the crux of the matter. if it's running on a 32A, then 6mm should be OK. if you'd have got glen n to do it, either way it would be right and with the correct certification.
