reading through the posts ,it seems that some people ask questions and are ignored or put down ; then another person who says there a spark asks a really stupid ( well if there an electrician its a stupid question) and people give them all the help in the world . answering the same thing twice or breaking it down for them.
or asking how much should i charge etc etc why this disparency :confused5:

Its a blood sport, in time you will look forward to tuning in every night and seeing who's getting it , its most enjoyable NOT , but there you go its gets your numbers up , so join the club you too will enjoy it , HAHAHA.

I prefer to think of it as sharks circling, waiting for the first drops of blood to appear in the water.

You can see why regular posters get peed off though, numerous posts about "I have done a CU change RCDs now tripping, Help!", these posters are getting good electricians money and then having to ask on an internet forum for help, inspires confidence in competency does it ?, NOT.

Asking basic questions that a second (or even first year) apprentices would know, what is more scary is that this is working in the general publics homes, taking learning on the job to new levels.

Just think of all the ones that don't ask...

Fair enough a good few of these posts are from DIYers, but quite a few are from Electrical Trainee whom should know better if the scams are to be believed. This is not bashing all Electrical Trainee btw, some Electrical Trainee on here show they are willing to learn, and do ask interesting questions that are a bit obscure in the regs that even fully qualified electricians struggle to agree on.

None of us know it all, and everyday is a schoolday and all that, true some are more acquainted with different disciplines within the industry, but seriously some questions on here scare me to death.

I had to change some key switches at a construction centre not so long ago. It was a real eye opener. They teach electrical courses there. It was all wiring by numbers there. The students had to follow the colour coded lines on a computer screen as they installed containment, power and lighting circuits etc. in a cubical. They may be able to wire and connect up a two way and intermediate switch like that but without the knowledge of how it all works. And this is the underlying problem. Without that underpinning knowledge, they are up the creek without a paddle in the real world. But it’s not their fault. They are brought up in a world were everything is run and organised by accountants and managers that are experts in managing but haven’t got a clue about what it is they are managing. If you want to change the system, get rid of them clowns!

I see what you are saying Kam,
I was not starting another bashing Electrical Trainee post/thread (I leave that to Glenn lol), what I meant was there are aspects of this industry that I know very little about, or have no experience of, but I know enough to know that I don't know enough, therefore not competent to undertake such work until such time that I have either trained up on it and/or gained enough experience in some way or other.

I was pointing out why the regulars sometimes give short shrift to the same questions asked over and over again, that a simple search on here would reveal, this is often just down to sheer laziness on behalf of the person asking.

Then there are posters who get abusive when they don't get the answer they expect, or want to hear.

Then there are posters who don't give enough information, or don't have enough knowledge to even know that vital information is missing.

The list goes on and on, anyway time to chill lol, I really am starting to sound like Glenn lol

Yeah, I know what your saying. It’s very childish of me but I love this forum because of all the chaos. It’s entropy at it’s finest. Charles Darwin would be chuffed to bits about us proving his theory of evolution so succinctly. Anyway, on a more serious note. There must have been a time when we didn’t know anything at all. And the only way we learned is by asking questions and analyzing the answers. So let them ask the questions and we will try and sort out the windups from the crackpot theories….lol

What do you want? a Medal?

Dont worry he'll be back in a week, charging in like a Morris Dancer at an Islamic funeral.

Look on the bright side? He has got two weeks of rubbish posts to reply to!!! (including this one lol).

Apparently PC World have donated 2 laptops to him in their anticipation of his return. The first one he will melt the plastic keys with his "Fingers of Fire" replying to stupid questions that ""electricians"" ask. The 2nd laptop is reserved solely for the use on Electrical Trainee's and DIYer's.

Jeremy Clarkson told me in the pub the other night that he heard from a friend of a friend(the Old Stig) that the forum sponsors have issued ear protectors and a book called "How to Grow a Think Skin and Man Up IN 7 Days" to all forum members with a post count lower than 100

I saw a local news bulletin the other day saying "That all the internet electrical china shops within a 25 mile radius of Glenn are close as from the end of next week".

"How many electricians does it take to change a light bulb?" None, Glenn can do it by just using the power of his mind! Lol (he'll love that one  )

When he is back, God help anyone asking about exporting PME to a shed, I dont have a tester and the RCD is tripping, I wired up the cooker using 1.5mm and dont know why my customers house is now on fire?

Ok Glenn, you and me (or, you and I, for the ones that want to pick me up on grammar lol) have had a bust up and a falling out over these past 6 months or so. Just thought I would have a laugh with the forum lads whilst you are on "holiday". No offence intended Glenn. If I wanted to offend you, I'd just post up photo's of you (you know the ones that I have got as well????)

Well that is my public reconciliation attempt, copied, pasted and e-mailed to Glenn as I dont talk about people behind their backs. A lot of people are missing Glenn, dont get banned again FFS. See you soon.

... the forum sponsors have issued ear protectors and a book called "How to Grow a Think Skin and Man Up IN 7 Days" to all forum members with a post count lower than 100
See, this is what I'm talking about! How can anyone learn how to grow thick skin in 7 days?!? It just beggars belief! The proper route to becoming a certified thick skin individual is 3 years at college, then on the job training as an apprentice, only later adding extra qualifications such as "Thick Hide," "Thick Ears" and "Thick Head." It really scares me, these 7dw read the book, front up to a bit of gentle joshing, think they know it all and before they know it they go off onto the forum late on a Friday evening, correct someone's grammar, and then a guy with "SPARK" in his name rips them a new a***hole.

...I'd just post up photo's of you...

photos ;)

This is Glenn on a good day lol
