Well after a day out with davesparks (thanks mate) I have learnt not only learnt how to do a proper earth rod test at a special location but now have some experience outside domestic instillations. After a warm welcome he set about giving me a guided tour of the festival and the power system that would be feeding it, all of which he was in charge of (scary face). It was all very exciting and interesting if not slightly daunting and although I probably only took in 50 per cent of what he said and the answers he gave to my questions I still learnt a hell of a lot so a big thumbs up from me.

Im hoping to use it as part of my nvq which I start in September and hopefully finish a few months after!

I have put all the data we collected into excel and produced a graph to show the results but Im not sure how I can display them in this post to see what you guys think the results are telling me.

does anyone know how to do this please?

Glad it was a good day, thumbs up to davesparks.

If you have an excel file then you could upload this as an attachment once you have chosen go advanced but the recent new security int he forum may block this, failing that if you have the graph open and filling your screen then you can press ALT + print screen and a picture of the graph will be stored on the clipboard, go into a picture editor and paste (Ctrl +V) and a picture of the open application will be pasted, save it and then you can insert that picture in your post using the insert image button on the reply toolbar.

No worries, i'll let you know as and when any good jobs come up again, i've just had 4 weeks work dropped in my lap after a company had to ditch their supervising electrician and need someone to fill in before they can hire a replacement.

Nice one. What's the venue?

Lowdefest in Hartley Wintney

Fair play to you, hope he gave you a few quid, for at least another pair of hands. lol

I am embarrassed to say that we only managed to give him lunch, but it was cooked by our head of barbeque and catering operations (in-house joke, but he does a good job).

that makes 2 of us.

I'll make that 3!

As for the above test results, they are from a 3 wire fall of potential test on a temporary supply earth rod. When we did the test I said the results didn't look to be quite what I expected, but I was working a bit too quickly and had rather a lot on my mind. I have now put the results onto a graph and I think they aren't as bad as I first thought, Just ran out of test lead before getting near enough to the C electrode to get the rise after the levelling off of the graph.

Those test results don't make any sense to me at all?? What's with the tiny distances mentioned here?? If anything, the testing distances would be ''Starting'' at 15 m rather than finishing at 15m!!!

Using the data you have given I have prepared a graph of that data and attach it here as a picture.

Thanks a lot rich that is most kind mate. The graph that I produced from the data didn't really look like that but admitably I am also poor on computers especially excel. I followed a youtube video but it still didn't end up looking like that so thanks mate :)
