They are metal boxes....no plastic inserts though. I know the ones you mean. We've peered up at a switch and spotted that it looks like the old conduit system....the ones where the switch back boxes had a wee spigot that pushed onto the end of the conduit drop.
Morning. A friend and I have been carrying out some EICRs on properties in our area. Recently, my mate has come across two houses in which the lighting circuits do not have any earthing at all. They have been run in twin and earth but the earths have all been snipped off at lighting points...
Hello chaps. Friend of mine has recently bought himself an American 120V ac 60Hz heater from EBay, (yes he was ****ed), and has tasked me with me finding a solution to him using it here in the good old U of K.
Any ideas...?
Read up a bit on it. Apparently heating elements do not really...
It is because it is a commercial installation. But I suppose the sockets are still to be used my ordinary persons so will require RCD protection.
I would give them a code C3 though. Retrospective work and all that.
PS may I add a strange question from someone down in their profile as teaching Electrical Installation... have I missed something here?
Haha. It's called seeking guidance.!! I am indeed a teacher of electrical installation, but unfortunately not the Yoda of the electrical installation world...
Thanks for your replies lads. I have to say that the problem is not with the domestic customer, but at the moment I am in the middle of testing a pub....3 boards and less than ideal wiring techniques. I was given the previous inspection and testing information, which I thought would be a great...
Hello. I have been asked on numerous occasions to carry out EICRs for various people/companies. It's an area I have thought about getting involved in, but now not so sure.
I teach the 2394/95 and thought it would be a good way of getting some 'hands on' experience to enhance my understanding of...
An armoured 90 degrees cable is to be installed between two pieces of equipment. The equipment at either end is rated at the standard 70degrees C. The cable was tested as a 70degrees cable but another organisation has said that the cable must be tested as a 90degree cable regardless of the...
Darkwood. We do not teach it, but it has always been a sticking point with management that we refuse to teach it based on the fact that none of us are certificated to any degree in scaffolding....of any type. The reason I ask is that it has come to that time of year again where we are being...
Hello lads. Was wondering if you could help me with an issue we have at work?
I'm a lecturer in electrical installation at a local college training young apprentice sparks. Part of the training involves getting the 1st stage lads to build a tower scaffold two sections high with all the necessary...
I'm a Lecturer for apprentice sparks up here in Dundee, and also take commercial classes....17th Edition, Inspection and Testing, soon to be PV I think, and anything else with 'elect...' in front of it. Think this sounds like a very good idea. Count me in for anything I can do.
Cheers for the replies lads. Very much appreciated.
Gavin A, sound advice mate. I firmly believe in the benefits of 'hands on' experience with some competent installers. For years I've been asking my bosses to get me on placement with a reputable company, and to get some kind of 'tie-up' with a...
Good evening gents. Needing a favour if poss. I'm involved with training apprentice sparks. I'm moving to another college and would like to boost my knowledge base with regards to PV systems. I've been looking about and have read a huge amount of information, which is all valid information I'm...
The trade is still worth getting into, definitely. I would encourage any young person interested in a technical career to pursue an apprenticeship in an electrical discipline. That apprenticeship can, and will, open doors for them in later life far better than going down any university/academic...
Hello all. Just wondering if anybody has had any experience of fitting these "smart metrs" or are involved in fitting them on a large scale.....? Been asked to investigate running a course in them..(?), but don't know much about them myself. I know their purpose but that's about it.....
Cheers
