    Heating Controller Being overridden (UK)

I'm not familiar with that particular actuator. W M H stands for Water, Mid position and Heating. Best to look up the instructions for that actuator to see how to manually operate it.

    Heating Controller Being overridden (UK)

There's often a spring loaded metal lever on the side which you push across and hook under a lip to keep it open.

    Heating Controller Being overridden (UK)

Easiest way to find out would be to manually open the valve and see if the boiler then starts whilst the programmer is off.

    Heating Controller Being overridden (UK)

The fact that the thermostat had no light on it makes me suspect that something else is causing this, perhaps the microswitch on the actuator. If you reinstate the power and make sure there are no lights on the programmer, does the boiler still fire? If so, see if you can manually open and...

    110v transformer to air compressor

It could be that the power rating of the compressor (in kW or kVA) is too large for the transformer. Could you have a look at the compressor and let us know what the rating is, and the same for the transformer. We'll then be able to help a bit more.

Positioning of vents and extractor fan in shed?

I'd just put 2 low down on the opposite wall. If you put them on the same wall, the airflow will short circuit and will result in you not pulling air across the cabin.

    Fault find RFC, next socket

Good question. A switched fused spur is always double pole (it switches line and neutral), so you just have to ensure that the switch is off when you IR test. Be wary of switched socket outlets as many are only single pole switched, so you need to physically remove anything that is plugged in...

    Cables under subfloor

Bunching the cables will require their current carrying capacity to be derated as they won't be able to dissipate heat efficiently. This will need to be calculated. Provided that all three conductors from each cable enter the consumer unit through the same hole, there'll be no problem with...

    Advice needed on wiring issue

Like others have said, you've got reversed polarity due to the meter tails. It does need sorting out ASAP. The who consumer unit needs sorting out with the correct RCD and circuit breakers. I'd recommend that you employ an electrician to carry out a condition report on the whole...

Countrywide Repairs Offering 350 EICR's IS a Scam. AVOID

Very sorry to hear that they've deceived you. I think they have been doing this under various names for years. You should never need to part with large amounts upfront for leads. As you've got an email address, you could try doing a whois search to see who owns the domain name (the bit after @...

failed EICR, please can you advice

I had to download it and try a couple of pdf readers to get it to open on Android. Edit... Looks like nicebutdim has made them visible now.

failed EICR, please can you advice

It's impossible to give a definitive answer without seeing the installation. Most of the findings are fair, some may be slightly harsh. Best advice would be to get another electrician to price for the remedial work & to recertificate it when complete. They should be able to give you an honest...

    New parts...do I go cheap?

It's difficult to say. If you want to be certain, buy a genuine replacement element. If you're happy to gamble, buy a cheap one. As with anything, sometimes the non-original parts are fine and are as good as the originals, or they might be poor quality. If you want to buy the non-original...

    Fault find RFC, next socket

I'd link line and cpc on one leg of the ring final at the consumer unit and then do an R1+R2 test at each socket. The resistance value will increase as you go around the ring. Plotting the values on a plan can help you visualise how it's wired. Watch out for spurs as they can confuse things...

Replacement for discontinued Aurora integrated downlight

To be honest, you're unlikely to get a like for like replacement. The things to look for are light output (lumens), colour temperature and hole diameter. I still stick to a gu10 fitting and separate lamp, but they wouldn't match your existing fittings.

Bundy makes the Rolls Royce of temp site boards ...

Certainly more professional than giving the tails a hair cut and putting them into a twin socket!

    Parallel earth paths and design

According to regulation 543.2.6, certain extraneous parts can be used as a protective conductor. I'd suggest that the cpc is sized on one path rather than trying to calculate the sum of the parallel paths as each would have a different impedance, particularly for different materials at different...

    Become NAPIT registered

It's definitely worth speaking to NAPIT to get a clear idea of what they require. One other thing to consider is whether you will ever need a JIB Gold Card, either now or later. If that's the case the requirement is also likely to be NVQ3. Good luck and let us know how you get on.

    Become NAPIT registered

I think the rules were tightened up in October this year. It now looks like it's difficult to gain membership without NVQ3. The document listing the requirements is here. The relevant bit is: Route Recognised Qualifications or Equivalent 1 Level 3 Certificate in Installing, Testing and...
