Just had full rewire done, cables very close to surface or coming through skim

Being as the cables are installed vertically above the switch, they are classed as in the zone for cables to run and therefore don't require capping. However that cable should have been chased deeper. While the plasterer was skimming, or bonding he runs the risk of damaging the cable with his...

    eicr coding question

Personally, I would give it a C2 because the customer could be cooking pasta one day, accidently spill the water over the cooker isolator and could cause it to develop a fault. Also steam from cooking won't do the isolator any good. Not to mention the heat from the hob. Code C1 ‘Danger...

Pendant light with no colour coded wires

In that case, you will need a continuity tester to test what cable goes to what part of the lamp holder.

Pendant light with no colour coded wires

4 wires to one light would suggest there's 2 lamp holders, is this the case?

Pendant light with no colour coded wires

I saw one the other day that had a white streak, and the other had nothing. ES fitting and polarity was incorrect by whoever installed it. Lucky they didn't change the lamp in it. Think they said they got it from John Lewis.

Pendant light with no colour coded wires

Typical Pendant Wiring: Without a continuity tester, I wouldn't even attempt to wire the light as you could wire it incorrect and cause a short circuit. Either call a electrician out to look at it, or get a continuity tester. EDIT: just saw your post saying it's on the light itsself, ignore...

Possible room to room networking solution?

Honestly don't know if you can use any sets of pairs. They are twisted to reduce interference and that would be the only issue I could think of. So long as you use pairs, I don't see an issue, just make sure you use a network tester because if any of the pairs are not kept as pairs, you can get...

Possible room to room networking solution?

Did some research on what pins do what in an ethernet cable, as I know some are unused. Source: https://www.iplocation.net/rj45-wiring and have come up with this monster, however there is no guarantee this would work, it's just what I think would work and would require testing. Hope this helps

Looking for advice on how best to become a spark

My advice would be to get a list of companies in your area, use this to help you: Home - http://www.electricalcompetentperson.co.uk/ and just phone them and ask them if they are looking to take any apprentices on in the new year. I spent a few months doing this and got lucky when I got a call...

Am2 correct installation of data cable

Unfortunately I don't have a picture of one, however you get a small plastic cover and place it over the data cable where it travels between compartments. I ran my data in the top and bottom compartments too, so its most likely the cover that failed you. Its just a white rectangle with no back...

Types of electrical work out there

I would do some research about local companies in your area. For instance are there any factories like honda or intel that require electricians?
