    Advice on Installation

"They have suggested that where the socket could be used for equipment such as lawnmowers that the FCU should have a non-latched RCD. The reason being that if the power drops out momentarily it will not be restored as the relay will trip out and not reset. This will prevent something like a...

    Advice on Installation

So how is this "something bad" going to happen then? How is using an RCD socket, which may or may not have a different latching system, going to result in an accident or death any more than using an RCD at the origin in the CU? How much chance do you think there is, of you ending up in court, or...

    Advice on Installation

Very well said and articulated GB. I find this thread quite ridiculous to be honest, people need to stand back and look at exactly what the situation is. If it were me being asked to do this job, I would fit the guy an RCD socket without a second thought, before a bloke down the pub comes along...

has any body try to send you information

I get loads of these. I have never understood them, some go to great lengths to tell me about the house they have inherited, what they need doing and so on, always originating from the enquiry form on the website. I used to ask them to provide me with a phone number, or to even ring me, but they...

Well, being as how you are in Eire or Ireland or wherever I would just keep my head down and hope to God that the electrical police don't come round tomorrow.

If the client wants to keep a mental pit bull that might rip your throat out that's up to him as well. We are not the police.

No earth in lighting circuit what next?

This idea of walking off and "cutting out" a circuit that has probably been in service for 30 years is quite ridiculous, just because a CU has been replaced. I really do wonder what world some folks on here live in, to be honest. If they worked for themselves they would starve to death.

No earth in lighting circuit what next?

Yeah cos all the registered ones are totally safe and never do anything like this eh?

No earth in lighting circuit what next?

"What needs to happen is what applies in Ireland. It is a criminal offence for an unregistered person to work on any electrical equipment. Any instances found are required to be notified by the electrician to the local Council who will investigate and prosecute in almost every case." So how...

No earth in lighting circuit what next?

You are missing the point that the installation was, and probably had been in that condition (no CPC) for many years before our lad came on site, so how is that his fault? At the end of the day, even though he might have demonstrated some lack of foresight and knowledge, he has made the...

Tests to carry out prior to new CU

I think we have all done that, I certainly have. At the end of the day NO customer is going to want his decorations pulling apart when the wiring has been sitting there for 30 years with no problem.........
