Can i use a Reed switch to detect if my motor is spinning?

Nope, that's engineering the solution before quantifying the risks.

Can i use a Reed switch to detect if my motor is spinning?

If this really is a safety function then ignore every single bit of advice on here, and pay for some professional advice.

    Contactor question

As above, it's an MPU. OP - if you don't understand that, maybe time to tell your customer the same.

Is this allowed as i could not find an answer in the wiring regs.

What has the method of cabling got to do with the method of isolation?

    Earthing.

Sounds like this is a machine, in which case BS 60204 is the relevant standard, most likely BS 60204-1. I'll have a look when I get to work, see what it says about protective conductors. BS 7671 is irrelevant here.

    Sizing MPCB

No. Use one whose range covers the FLC of the motor, and set it to that value.

    PLC question for beginner...again?

I work in Industrial automation, to say it's completely moving towards Rockwell is a strange statement, I work on my many new Siemens systems, PLC, SCADA and PCS7. Power stations, packaging, baggage handling systems to name but a few.

Do I need over current protection?

Overload should be set to motor FLC. Job done.

DOL Starter / automatic dust extraction system

I made something similar for my brother. Used a thing which fitted around a chop saw motor live conductor, bit like a current transformer but just provided a contact which then pulled in a contactor to energise a socket which powered a dust extractor. Also had a run on timer to keep the...

Lets Talk about Large Earth Currents

Trirated, by which presumably you mean trirated panel, is not suitable for installing in a festoon. Use some drag chain cable, you can get g/y singles, taped or tywrapped to the other flatforms.

    mains leads

Does 7671 apply to these, are the leads fixed wiring?

Mcc panels and their Appropriate standard

I've done many many jobs in food and beverage factories, software mods on existing machines, safety upgrades etc. The overriding common theme is the lack of drawings and the amount of bodges to keep production going.

    MCB/RCBO/RCD/Fuses - Periodic inspection

I can think of no good reason why fuses on a TP supply need to be from the same brand. A fuse is a fuse, made to an appropriate standard. As for different manufacturers mcbs in boards, you see it all the time in industrial installations, and I can see no real problem with it.

    PLC for a beginner

I have, in fact I was the one that did it, on a Siemens PCS 7 system. Redundant processors, redundant fibre ring, with redundant copper Profibus links from fibre converter to redundant remote IO processors. At a non-nuclear power station. But you're right, it's usually the IO which fails.

Chemical fixing or Resin fixings to secure trunking

I doubt he or she is 'jumped up know it all' or sees themselves as a genius. Just somebody doing a job to the best of their ability.

    Dual supply in property

Would that info be recorded anywhere, or would the next spark along just wonder why there was a mix of cables, and carry on regardless.

    Motor control for chicken house

The law (Supply of Machinery Regulations) says that the first thing you must do is a risk assessment. By "you" I mean your customer and/or you. That would be before worrying about whether you need to interlock your reversing contactor. The risks to both operator and maintainer may be...

    Bonding tray in 18th edition

Why does it have to be continuous? It's generally just another bit of steelwork, neither extraneous nor exposed conductive part.

    Bonding tray in 18th edition

Usually there is no need to either earth or bond traywork. If the cabling is insulated and sheathed, Class 2 equivalent construction, the traywork won't be an exposed conductive part so no earthing required. Traywork doesn't usually introduce an earth potential that isn't already present, so no...
