    Highest paying specialty?

Hi Brian, if you was charging £150 a day that's still very cheap for an Electrician in Essex. Most of our guys are on £180. Back to the OP if you want to earn big money become an Electrical inspector on the council. Basic is about £45K, but the brown envelopes..............Kerching!

Megger 1730 MFT. Not tripping on any RCD tests on known good circuit.

Hi Marti, Have you tried dropping it in to these guys....... Test Instrument Calibration - Electronic Instrument Calibration Repair - Essex, UK - http://www.capitalcalibration.co.uk/ They are pretty helpful and calibrate and repair our testers all the time.

New electric cooker causing power to trip at fuse. The fuse is reluctant to flick back on after.

This..... Get him to remove the Crabtree RCD And get him to sort out the horrible segregation of the circuits at your CCU! You have all your lights and general sockets on one RCD so in the event of a fault on that side of the CCU you will end up in the dark.

    Fuse board upgrade price.

As a result of doing K&Bs for about 18 years i've changed literally hundreds of CCUs so im pretty quick at them but no i was talking about just changing a CCU, but as i would have carried out a full EICR before doing the change a retest after is not going to take long is it?

    L-E 199v, N-E 199v ............... real readings

Immersion Heater has 2 elements, Peak and off peak wired incorrectly through a Horstmann switch and you was testing during the afternoon boost?

    Fuse board upgrade price.

Fair enough, I would expect to change a ccu in around 2 hours, maybe 3 if it was a Mantel unit as them Amd 3 Skeletons are awkward. We use Wylex or Crabtree.

    Fuse board upgrade price.

OP did say it was just a domestic, i would struggle to justify a 2nd man.

22 usable way split load NOT stacked

Maybe couple two 11 way boards next to each other? Connect them so one main switch switches both.

    Fuse board upgrade price.

You are paying too much for your materials and since when has changing a ccu been a two man job? What does the 2nd bloke do? Edit; Also a full day??

    Fuse board upgrade price.

This is fair. More than £500 for a straight CCU change is ripping people off.

Sparks vs Plumbers... What's the score?

Its simple.........We have to control and manipulate an invisible force so dangerous that touching it can kill you and they work with excrement. :D

Hi All, Anyone know the cable factor for 150mm LSF cables for installing in trunking? Table E5 in my OSG only goes up to 25mm!

Is there a time limit for upgrading to 18th edition

I honestly can’t see anything here to justify a new edition of the regs. Surely a 4th amendment would have sufficed? Still, I suppose much like the Health and Safety mob they have to keep justifying their existence! #Scam!

    Estate agent and money

Well if you still have the keys I wouldn’t worry too much about getting paid. :D

    Certification Questions

I think you misunderstood my point mate, you have carried out a major piece of electrical work, something you are not qualified to do. you should get a qualified sparks to look at it in conjunction with a full test. Then get him to rectify any faults he finds. Weather your dabbling has made your...

    Certification Questions

You have no chance of getting it signed off. You should pay a sparks to do an eicr, then pay him to fix all the departures, he will then give you a satisfactory eicr. It’s about the best you can hope for.

New Consumer Unit, what do you think ?

Why? Maccas already doing plenty of work in the property, A loaded RCBO board costs £150, couple of hours work to install. £150 profit. No need to rip off the customer.
