UK Puzzled by electrician comments about earth fault.

The electrician may be referring to earth reading taken at the incoming supply. 0.35 Ohms is the maximum permitted ze reading for a TNC-S system , Just A guess though I afraid . Just going by the mentioned of Mains ,but not sure what the sockets have to do with this

When did sockets require RCD protection?

I'm pretty sure that RCD protection was only require on socket outlets to be used outdoors back in 1991 and there was no requirement for RCD protection for cables less than 50mm deep in a wall I'm sure that came much later I think it was when the 17th came out in 2008

Ok just to update I carried out an "insulation resistance test " :) across all cables and the lowest reading was between line and earth 545 meg at 500 volt so ok for now . UK MCB type confusion.

Sounds like someone working in the commercial sector fitted the consumers unit maybe had a load of spare mcbs on the van !! I would of thought disconnect time would be achieved as the cables runs would not be that long. Although the 32 amp circuits may be close to the maximum zs permitted...

    EIC’s in new builds

Yes sorry my mistake I'm thinking of the Niceic ones. Maybe then the op could sign off the testing part. As long as the installer as signed his parts. Personally though I would not want to sign of someone's work even just the testing unless i had seen it installed at all stages and had good...

    EIC’s in new builds

There is effectively 4 signatures required for a EIC the designer the installer the tester and the supervisor. This can be the same person if they have done all the work. But in your case if you are only doing the testing you can only sign that part of the cert . The problem I see is that the...

Plastic trunking over a door way

You secure the clips though the trunking into the wall so the idea is the trunking melts away and just the clips remain holding the cables in place.
