Awful DB replaced 6 months ago!

I know of the company that passed it in the periodic though! The client is aware. Going to need a new DB case and a good tidy up. People like this give electricians a bad name, its a disgrace. Especially when the client thought that we are just trying to make more money out of them. To which...

Tool thief killed by vigilantes in uk

Wouldn’t being in prison for GBH be a more loss of an earning than your tools? Which are replaceable, that we all have insurances for? Maybe I’m not grasping it as I’m employed! And I’m not condoning tool theft by the way! There’s just better ways of dealing with it!

Tool thief killed by vigilantes in uk

I’ve seen the inpact of drink driver’s on families. Many will forgive the person in court and move on which takes incredible spirit. Others not so. We’re human beings and all different I guess. That into perspective, to wish ill of someone who has lost a life over replaceable belongings is a...

Tool thief killed by vigilantes in uk

Technically you can use ‘reasonable force’ under common law to detain individuals suspected of a crime that has either endangered life or to protect property. Store detectives can use the same law to detain shop lifters. It’s always the same people circulating through prison, repeat offenders...

Tool thief killed by vigilantes in uk

I served for two years as a special constable for my local force. I know exactly what it’s like as a police officer dealing with van thefts. With more red tape than ever, CPS throwing out cases due to lack of evidence, over stretched and under funded no wonder the officers seem to the public...

Hi Ze at distribution board, how would you approach?

I had this once on a phase at a police station, arranged UKPN to attend, within a day they dug out the road and located a loose connection. They had a meter that could locate the fault in approx. Metres! Nice bit of kit.

Can you extend ring cabling with terminal strip inside socket back box?

I would split the ring, one leg to the socket and the other to the spur, through crimp if necessary and install some 2.5 between the two outlets to maintain the ring.

Passed EAL level 3 electrical installation, now what?

Might be worth contacting the JIB about what courses to take next to get further grading. What to do to get approved or an installation electrician grading. I’m not 100% sure on what exactly EAL leads to. You’ll have to complete an AM2 practical assessment and a testing qualification I think.

Passed EAL level 3 electrical installation, now what?

As said before, contact all your local electrical companies. Most will jump out at the chance for a bit of labour. Larger firms may consider you for an apprenticeship, but if you’ve already spent two years in college it doesn’t seem necessary. However, experience is essential and reflects pay...

    Apprenticeshipsxxxxxxxxxxxx

I guess carrying out an apprenticeship was deemed as something you did when you left school, obviously it’s a way of learning while working in the given trade, regardless of age. The bad thing is with starting later, is the wage. £150 a week went a long way living with parents and to only run a...

Help with 3 phase star delta motor

The motor is in a duct so without removing it it's difficult to work on! IR and continuity sounds good once disconnected, will I be looking for any resistance in particular on the windings? What IR voltage do you recommend? 500V as no sensitive electronics? I've never done this in practice but...

Help with 3 phase star delta motor

Great advice. Thanks guys. Will re attend tomorrow with a contactor, overload and relay and a lot more knowledge about the system. If replacing those don't help, I will get the motor re wound.
