    Tradepoint woes

Quite a few times I've been in to Tradepoint and they didn't have what I wanted in the Tradepoint stock, but I was able to walk out into B&Q store to pick items up off the shelf and return to Tradepoint counter. Just need to check you actually do get the discount applied - there is a different...

    Tell us about your faults!

A message for djo2904 PLEASE DO NOT PUT YOUR FINGERS INTO THE HOLES IN YOUR CONSUMER UNIT WHILST THE POWER IS ON. If you feel the need to demonstrate to someone that there are holes into which you can put your fingers, then at least turn off all power before you do so. And I hope you get...

    17th edition Split board issues.

Where you 'split the neutrals' I assume you mean that you disconnected different cables from the JB and tested them individually. Did these cables actually run to individual lights, or were they actually the supply (lighting ring = two cables) from the CU? If the latter, then that will explain...

    A late (very) career change

Frank, I recommend you take the C&G2357 course part time two evenings a week at Northampton College. That is what I am doing at the moment. You will not be able to start until next Sept but it is the best way to learn. It will though take three years to get the complete qualification. And in...

consumer unit change with undersized main bonding.

You mention 'network circulating currents' in bonding cables. Is there generally current circulating in bonding conductors in PME systems then? I was under the impression that the only time current would flow in bonding conductors would be under fault conditions.

    Trans Euro Ltd, Towcester

They are local to me as well. Steve Redpath is the guy you need to speak to. Best arrange a visit to see their premises and chat to Steve to get a feel for them. Very friendly and helpful. I ended up studying at local college in Northampton but would otherwise have chosen TransEuro. They seem...

Can anyone recommend a good PAT testing training course in the North East Uk ?

This sounds very good. Most 2377 courses are one day - spreading it over six nights gives plenty of time to absorb the information. Price is good, too.

Under what circumstances would you do PAT live? None that I can think of.

    New book from Chris Kitcher

Look at the screen, at the bottom of each post on each thread is a coloured bar (mine is a light tan colour) and the first word on it is 'Thanks'. You click on that word.

    main bonding

Main bonding is to gas and water supplies, not to sinks. You may or may not need to supplementary bond a sink. You did of course check the main bonding existed and was up to scratch, didn't you?

    17th edition Split board issues.

Sounds like you've got an interconnection between circuits - possibly two interconnections. Have you tried taking out all conductors from the kitchen ring and checking for continuity between each of those conductors and all earth and neutral bars? And the same with the upstairs lighting circuit...

    Neff oven thermostat problem

To the Op (johnatfarnham) can you post the picture up here so we can all see? We know you solved your problem, but it would be good to get a look at the device in question - every day is a schoolday - and it might just be me looking inside an oven next time wondering what that device might be.

    Testing

The basic package of EasyCert has this, I believe. Costs about £40 but I can not vouch for how good it is as have not seen/used it myself. You do get all other certs with it as well for that price.

If you have the time and resources to look it up before you dial, this site is pretty good SAYNOTO0870.COM - Non-Geographical Alternative Telephone Numbers Or you can use this service, it is not quite as comprehensive, but less hassle to use 0800Buster.co.uk: Call 0800 Numbers Free From Your...

    PIR - EICR documentation

If you know the differences, can you not just add info to the old certs and still make use of them? As long as you make all necessary amendments and state it is to amendment 1 I would have thought this would be ok. Not terrific looking, but still compliant.

    Testing

The circuit starts at the MCB (or RCBO), so test results must be recorded for all cables coming from that mcb. If you have two radials, or a ring and a radial, for example, off that mcb then you need to test it all. It is no good saying you have only altered/added one of the radials and then...
