    Fire alarm manual call points

If you don't have any training and certification to bs5839-1 I wouldnt be very keen on giving any sort of certificate for that work. It means you are responsible for that whole system and if anything was to happen during an emergency then the buck stops with you. I was advised against doing any...

    total control

Total control is a form of storage heating. Works from a teleswitch with 3 outputs. One for the storage heaters, one for panel heaters, immersion boost and electric shower and one for off peak immersion. The customer may be requiring you to connect the 3 tails from the heating board into the...

    Homebase

Got talked into taking out a similar thing with tescos, £1200 for 2 years. Must be around 3 years ago and the cards are still on display, got my first call last week! I'm not even trading under the same name but still have the same phone number. Avoid like the plague!

    Approved test.

All the books are supplied on the day. It's all common sense but the books are there to refer to.

    Storage heaters

First thing I would check would be the time clock which should bring the heaters on around 11pm, could be its faulty. Unlikely to be fuses if all 3 heaters are not working.

    Hypothetical question

I believe this is permitted, don't know the regs or any particular conditions which have to be met but when I worked for my old company there was certain occasions when this was done on large steel frame structures.

    Coloured accessories

Clipsal used to do black accessories and I'm sure they did red, green and blue too, this was around 10 years ago though. Don't know if they are still available.

    Live cable at cut out

How nice of the DNO to leave a live end sticking out of the cut out! Dont think pic is working, will try again later!

    Off Peak meter timer wiring

The Henley block on the right is permanently live as it is fed direct from the meter so the tail which then goes into the left of the time clock is the live in and the one on the right is the switched live which will become live at the set off peak times. This feeds the Henley on the left which...

    Electric window openers....

The only ones I have seen were velux ones that required a 3 amp supply, window came pre wired with flex. All operated by remote control.

    Economy 7 timer

They operate in the same way. If you are just fitting a new one you would be able to leave the back box and just change the front plate, 5 minute job. Easier than trying to fit 2 separate timers.

    Socket spur

Had a ring circuit with a spur feeding a 2 gang socket coming directly from the 32a mcb. Ring main has since been stripped out and just left with the spur. I have now fitted a 2 gang socket in 4mm directly below the cu, is it still acceptable to leave the 2.5 spur coming off the same 32a mcb?

    New build wiring

It's maybe different south of the border but up here any work that has a building warrant must use the new heights except i think a loft conversion.

    Overhead lines

It's a professional looking installation, probably been there for at least 50 years.

    Overhead lines

No, private supply from house to garage.

    Overhead lines

Worked at the property before so know the set up, it's proper overheads, porcelain insulators etc. Cantenary wire is an option though!

    Overhead lines

Got a call this evening asking if I could repair overhead lines between house and garage, haven't seen it but think it could be about 20 meters. Shouldn't be a problem but where will I get cable, is it something that the wholesalers normally stock?

    Click accessories

Only used the click deco range. It's cracking stuff, lovely finish on the chrome plates and the switches and dimmers can be mixed and matched on the same plates.

    Emergency lighting

Yes, I would normally fit one key switch per circuit or per room depending on the layout of the premises.

    Meters

Thats what I was hoping I could do, just never seen it done before. Now to contact the dno!
