    Contractor jailed.................

Would that be a 'Scotch' pound or an English one ... or a United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland one? ;oP

ive been sorely missed on this forum

I am sorry elsparko ... I cannot say that I had noticed the loss of your 'sparkling' wit and banter!

Power cables and hot water pipes.

Whichever it is, it does not appear to be between 7 % and 25 % of span ... and almost certainly deeper than 12.5 % of depth!

Choosing a power supply, switch fuse size

Who is this 'shirley' person anyway ... elsparko ... I think you mean 'surely' ... one less letter to enter and a slightly different letter order!

Pete's Videos For devotees of poncy CU cable dressing feast yer eyes on this lot

Thank you Pete for an example of 'best practice' in data networking ... where are the examples of really good workmanship in the electrical 'realm' for us to aspire to? GB

    Installing earth rod

I don't; but I think that the fact that he is MIA is a net loss to the 'board'!

1mm or 1.5mm T&E for standard lighting circuit in your average house.

... clearly ... as you put it like that ... 1.0 mm2 every time!

1mm or 1.5mm T&E for standard lighting circuit in your average house.

... indeed, I was 'playing' with MS Excel the other day, creating a graph of maximum design current vs circuit length for each size of cable to use as a useful indicator of maximum circuit length for a given design current.

1mm or 1.5mm T&E for standard lighting circuit in your average house.

Lee, I didn't for one moment imply that the house that I am working on is 'standard' or 'average' ... merely that effective application of BS 7671 design rules are required in every case!

1mm or 1.5mm T&E for standard lighting circuit in your average house.

Lee, Surely ... or is that 'Shirley' ... there is no 'standard' house and therefore the BS 7671 design rules need to be applied effectively! I am working in a large (?) Georgian property at the moment and the landing lighting circuit is > 50 m in length. Whilst nominal 230 V LED lamps may be...

    health and safety at work

Thanks S, for this 'timeless' classic. If I remember correctly I was first introduced to Fred via Blue Peter in the late '70s or early '80s. I admired his 'northern' grit and determination then, I think that he among others has shaped my 'passion' for former ways of doing things! Yours Aye GB

    Bloody Wood Butchers.

Clearly ... if I remember correctly, it may have been wrapped in insulation tape that had come 'loose' due presumably to 'aged' adhesive! Do you not think that it was unacceptable to leave it as is or even if wrapped? Surely it should have been cut off and terminated safely if there was enough...

Notches or Holes, clip or not to clip?

Thanks Chris, I ... unlike some others on here don't mind long yet informative posts indeed I enjoy reading them. About 2 years ago I suggested that there should be a specific area on the forum to address the installation 'issues' of 'historic' and 'traditional' or vernacular buildings. They...

    Bloody Wood Butchers.

Try this one on for size ... ... screw in 'free' space, not fixing anything, ~ 15 - 20 mm from the edge of the edge of the back box hole and roughly vertically in line with where the cable sheath and conductor insulation has been breached! Lath and screw 'plastered' over with 'new' white...
