Standard ceiling light pendant - Double Insulated?

Recently had my inaugural NICEIC Domestic Installer Assessment. My assessor pointed out to me that my Schedule of Inspections was slightly inaccurate in that I had marked "double insulation" as "N/A". He pointed out to me that standard ceiling pendants had no CPC and as such were class 2...

Do I need to Null Test Instrument.

Probably a noddy question but here goes. When testing earth fault loop impedance do you first have to null the test instrument. If the answer is yes are there any practical tips when nulling the types of test leads that incorporate a 3 pin plug for testing socket outlets?

    Crimps inside the CU

Come on guys and dolls. Comparing domestic LV installations with NASA's take on the matter of crimps is nugatory in my view. I have a military background and by way of example, crimps in aircraft armament systems are a complee no, no. But we are not talking about NASA; and we are not talking...

    Crimps inside the CU

I think I have gleaned sufficiently from other posts that it is acceptable to use good quality inline crimps to extend cables for terminatingwithin a newly installed CU. Invariably, for 2.5mm T&E and 1.5mm T&E these crimps will be red in colour. I ask the experienced electricians on this forum...

Larger than Required cable Size - Is this OK.

Here's the situation. For whatever reason this domestic installation has ended up with a washing machine hard wire to a fused, switched (with neon) switch (that was obviously once a cooker switch) supplied by a 10mm T&E on a 16A MCB. A 13A fuse is installed in the switch. The cooker (which...

Electrical Installation Certificate - Supply Protective Device Characteristics

What course of action is recommended when the type and size of supply protective device characteristics cannot be identified without pulling the fuse. I phoned the DNO and asked them for the info. Initially they told me to pull the fuse but later agreed that if I wanted that info they would...

Breaking capacity for BS 3371 ?

Technically and scientifically, Johnstantine, you are 100% correct.Capital M means mega which means 10 to power of 6 (big) and m is milli which is 10 to the minus 3 (small). However I think we're all agreed the answer to your question is 9KA.

T&E clipped direct to outside wall.

Noticed at paragraph in part L that puts covered ways (which this is) into same bracket of exemption as conservatories. I reckon this is intended to be for insulation rather than lightning but what the hell, if it says it's exempt Part L that's good enough for me. Rules is rules.

T&E clipped direct to outside wall.

Thanks Richard. Does the fitting not have to be designed at Max 100W, rather than just fitting an 80 or100W filament?
