Setting up my own electrical contracting business

You have only moved to England recently… Speak to the governing bodies such as NICEIC, NAPIT, ELECSA etc for information about getting the right qualification based on your existing education. After getting qualified, you should register with one of them under “competent...

    periodic queries..

Just as Richard Burns says, I carry an inch or two of the most usual sized cables in my meter box to help me assess the cable type when I do CU changes or anything else for that matter.

    Random wire in my bathroom...

This is clearly a situation where you have the circuit in question (whole or partially) without earthing and it means that you should only use double insulated class II equipment on such circuits. If in doubt seek help from an electrician. Cheers!

    6mm cable 40amp breaker. 8.5kw shower

8.5 KW would draw a maximum of 37 amps (8500/230=36.96) and it's not going to be used to it's full capacity and I would therefore leave it on a 32 A MCB.

As far as I have gathered, estate agents wouldn't bother with your PIR Certificate if you are not registered with one of the governing bodies.

Hi, Just wondering what one would do if he comes across the meter been by-passed? As an electrician where do we stand on this? Cheers!

    Rechargeable Hand Torch from Lidl

Hi, Just bought a Rechargeable Hand Torch from Lidl and in my opinion it's good value for the money and far better than the ones from B&Q or Wickes. Would be useful in lofts or any dark corners. LIDL Great Britain - lidl.co.uk

That's the nightmare. I opened all the sockets and there wasn't any visible clue. It's a TNS system and the strange thing is, if I touch the neutral bar with the neutral of one of the legs, the other RCD trips (alarm bell rings - possibly a borrowed neutral) The only thing left for me is to...
