Dual immersion. Need to be able to swap off peak and peak supply easily

Hi Simon. Could you swap the feed for the bottom element to the non switched consumer unit? Then fit timers to the elements that the customer set to what they like? You should still get the advantage of economy 7 rate, if my understanding is correct.

    new development

Not sure if im understanding correctly, but im assuming at the meter position the dno has installed 3 separate single phase meters. From here I would guess that the neutrals for the supplies would be separate . .

Hey spks, not sure how its going to work on a 5 core now that you have 3 separate single phase supplies. looks like some mixup with the installation of the SWA.

    Security light wiring

Dan I think you might have brought a two way switch. If so just connect your switched live to L1, if it appears that the switch is upside down, use L2 instead. Connect the neutrals together. Your permanent Live to light will go into com with the link from fuse. When using a two way switch as a...

    Security light wiring

FCU will be marked up, connect as you say, but you only will be using two cores + earth at the switched side, could put spare core in choc block. Should mark up these cores with sleaving with the appropriate colours.

    Security light wiring

Prob the best solution, Only need 2 of the cores + earth, dont cut the other off incase u change the setup in the future!

    Security light wiring

Unfortunately Dan with this setup it would not be possible/acceptable even with the 3core and earth. If u change the final spur to a light switch the cabling would be protected by the first spur (assuming 13a fuse installed) that would provide (likely) inadequate protection for your lighting...

    Security light wiring

Hi Dan Is the upstream spur feeding anything else or just the spur for the light? Im guessing it is, if so then no. If there is nothing else on the upstream spur stick a 5a fuse in it, then change the downstream spur for a light switch, u will need triple and earth from switch to fitting to...

Hi Stuart, firstly congrats on the exam success. It may be that I will be testing in south wales a week fri/sat. Depends on how the job goes. There wont be much money in it as Im doing it for my brother whose electrician has left the job half done after being paid in full.

Completely agree with Ian et al, you have the luxury of blocks behind the dot and dab, best to use it!

    PIR and lights

Hi Dave, depends on the type of lights you have purchased, if there are 3 terminals (excluding earth), Live , Neutral and switched (maybe marked up as L1) then maybe, you would have to put a triple+e in between the fittings. IF not, u could get two seperate PIRs and two light fittings

    Basic CCU Installation.

Hi only, Not sure why you have two neutrals from 1 RCD. All consumer units that i have recently installed come with a diagram on how to configure the board for different scenarios. The usual set up (high integrity) is a main switch where you would connect you meter tails or submain etc to the...
