Hi there

I live in a new build with dot and dab walls. Tomorrow i am to hang the tv and chase the cables in to the wall. Essentially i am going to hang the tv and feed the hdmi/optical and some other leads behind the wall as well as the tv power cable.

Are there any rules around having all the cables in the same trunking and would you advise just creating two small holes and feeding the cables down or actually chasing out a strip of board, potentially with some of the block behind, putting some trunking in then bonding over the top to sit flush with the plasterboard(we will be wallpapering aftwerwards when done)

thanks very much

ricki

The less holes the better, just try n bear in mind cable runs (horizontal & vertical) so people know cables are buried in walls.
make sure u get plenty of fixings in wall bracket

ps I wouldn't bother putting it in trunking. Behind the plasterboard is fine

I'd go with your second idea mate and whack some trunking in there, if you put a box above and below the trunking drop you'll be able to pull additional cables up if you ever get anything else for your tv, like a shiny new blu ray player! If its a short run its probably not worth separating the cables, others may disagree though!

drill right through to solid brick/breeze....
you may find sleeve anchors are better for this....

ive bought some dryline pro fixes especially for this. the hanging of the tv is not concerning me so much, its the cabling/chasing out thats the scary/difficult part

so essentially the aim is too create two small circular/square holes, tie all cables together, feed down to a hole at the bottom and feed through the gap. All cables can be fed together or is there an issue running the power lead and the hmdi leads?

sorry for questions :)

Until the weight of the TV pull the fixings out of the plasterboard and makes a mess off the wall, go into the brick/block work as advised.

send an old length of summat down first as a draw wire....tie your cables to that but stagger them....feed with one hand whilst pulling them through with the other...
theres a rule about keeping power and data cables seperate (trunking)...but you will find that the power cable insulation is more than enough for the highest voltage present (230V nominal)....if you want to keep `em seperate then be my guest....but i cant see it would be necessary here.....

they fix in to the blockwork....

"DrylinePro allows you to fix items to dry lined (dot and dab or plasterboard lined) walls quickly, easily, securely .
Watch our video to see how easy it is!"

they are like 6" screws - maybe im overestimating but they are much much bigger than the size of the board + the cavity
