At least the FCU wasn't supplying the socket!

How do I wire this plug up as the wires are not colour coded

It would certainly heat up faster at 240V! I have a large 240-120V transformer to power my American kitchen appliances here.

    Day 5 - The new Transit :-(

These sorts of rubbish features were a big part of the reason I decided against buying a new car recently.

Anyone know why this capacitor was installed?

Caps were also required when the lights were a small load to operate correctly with some 2 wire PIRs and timer switches that have no neutral connection. The timers current draw would be enough to make some fluorescent lights flicker etc.

    Earth bars interconnected hager

I also connect the 2 bars to the side bolt on these, the coarse, rounded thread screws hager use can work loose. All those bushes and glands sat up on the cable protection lip are making me cringe. :openmouth:

Fusing downstream with very short cable length

I can imagine it just disappearing (loudly) under short circuit conditions, then the resulting blast/plasma etc. casing the busbars to flash over damaging everything before taking out the ACB. The conductor on the other side of the bolt is a 240mm2 Cu-Flex.

Fusing downstream with very short cable length

Here is some 1.5mm2 connected to 1600A busbars :D:

    Pirate's Rant #1

I'm not sure, I seem to see more and more builders using 240v stuff! Carpenters are worse though, all those bandaged power tool flexes.

undersized cable provided by electric hob/cooker manufacturer?

I actually did it with a 4 core 4.0mm swa last week!

Fusing downstream with very short cable length

This sort of thing is done all the time for voltage inputs of sub meters etc. The main problem I've seen is undersized breaking capacity of the fuses.

Dodgy trade pictures for your amusement! - 1 Million Views!

Went to change a trickle/boost wall fan today that ventilated a small storage room. Disconnected the old fan from the adjacent switched fused spur, moved the supply wires from the load terminals to the supply terminals, replaced the 13a fuse with a 3a one. New fan class II but took Zs reading at...

Supply cable is connected to load terminals so fuse is still live when the isolator is in the off position. I didn't remove the terminal shield, it was left of top when I got there.

    Wiring 3 way switch

That wiring does not look good at all and there seems to be some additional problems beside the loose wiring. The photos are very small so I can't see all the details. I would recommend calling in an electrician to check things over.

    Connectors for T&E to Singles.

If you do need to join, Barton make large diameter 25mm conduit boxes to make it a lot easier to house the joints.

    Am I mad

Really dangerous putting the live on the supply side of the isolator and the neutral on the load side, the sort of thing that could kill someone.
