Hey! I grew up in Newport Pagnell, so did my Father and his. We have connections way back in the area. Just had to say hi, as what's the chance of someone naming such a obscure little place. Not demeaning it at all though!
Not too sure about that as the OP said he would wear out a hammer nailing in the clips. I take that to mean he is contemplating doing the temporary fix himself. I didn't think he would be wanting to get in an electrician to re-wire temp. then re-wire again "later", a very expensive idea imho.
I must say personally I would not do such a job. i.e. lash up cables and fiddle with old and by description at least, dangerous cabling. The liability is unacceptable as there are so many ways that could go wrong. As there are children as well it goes past my red-line on the dangermeter.
Having read through your musings/strategies...I think this should not even be a question. Perhaps your more proper question is how can I afford to re-wire. Surrey is the sort of place that will attract the kind of price you mention. There are two reasons I say this. One: Safety (esp. electrical)...
Not on my watch if I can possibly avoid an SPD. Really, Anyway never mind about that. The fact is if you put it to the client and they refuse then no, unless it is HMO or valuables etc. PIV, ok, if they think that A type is required does this mean they are worried about D.C. leakage? And, if so...
Yes it would be. I think he mis-represented the truth with a view to gain a pecuniary advantage. If he would have said it is recommended or best practive etc, to supply SPD AFDD RCBO RCD ad nauseam that is different to presenting a scenario where he can't install the oven if you do not pay for...
Nothing wrong with complying with what is a simple request. So long as you can get a compatible RCBO. I have just rewired a couple of flats (complete refurb) and PV was installed. The installer insisted I supply SPD as he can't sign off his work without it. I did think well put one in then it's...
Frankly I beleive that he has breached trading standards in that he has suggested you must have something that actually you do not need. This is fraudulent and he could be prosecuted for such fraud.
presumably you are going to have a fridge/washing machine/sockets for toaster/microw. oven and hob? I don't really get what you are asking? So let's just take the hob and oven. Where is the on off switch/control for both of them? What rating is the hob and oven or are they gas? Where are your...
Anyway, you don't change a board to pass a cerificate. You issue a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate (aka MEIWC) as best practice, but as already stated above it is not strictly required so that sounds like a load of bunkum to put it as politely as I can! So if I have this right...
On the scant information you have given it is hard to say the truth of the matter. How many Kilowatts is your new oven and how many kilowatts is your old oven? If you dont know, give us the model number of the ovens. Does your old oven plug in? Does the new one, i.e. does it have a plug on...
Sounds reasonable to me but then it would if I could get that price for a rewire. Check insurance and scheme membership before employing any electrician. In the South West where I am a four bed house with decent re-wire spec....6-8k is ball park. London 10-12k up North 2k.
I guess the best way to assay that is to do a test at an individual joint each side, no? My own exeprience with these joints is that there is good metal/copper contact so I would not think they are the cause. Maybe the electric tail rail is not properly earthed?
It is common and normal to forget anything taught within 24 hours studies show. It is only constant repetition that makes into memory and even that goes after a time. So don't beat yourself up. The answer to your woes is at hand however. I recommend
Andrew Butler Basic Electrical Formulae. This...
