    R1 + R2 expected readings

Obviously. I wasn't castigating the OP more the company. I think regulation 14 and a) b) c) have been interpreted extremely tightly. The observation was more that there is no real life measurement for compliance with ADS and I conclude the risk associated with that is higher (unreasonable)...

    R1 + R2 expected readings

You are either going to be carrying Zs on lights or sockets principally. Spurs come into it as well. I always do live tests at sockets, spurs and lights. I use the lightmate by Kewtech for Zs test. On courses it has been put to me this is a Lim, as you have to go up a ladder and H&S forbid this...

    R1 + R2 expected readings

What are you measuring and getting the figure 1 ohm From the circuit you descibe I would expect something around .3-.6 ohm max. I would expect age and installation technique would vary that figure if it was 1 ohm fine (ish) but would get my spider sense running looking for poor termination at...

    R1 + R2 expected readings

No don't use that table, it;s ok for reference but you need to use the resistance tables, google them. The whole point being is to work out for yourself the expected measurements as a reference point. When I put in a RFC I know how much cable I have used so say it was 63 m I calculate off of...

    R1 + R2 expected readings

You can calculate from resistance of copper tables the expected rn and expect that r1 will be about the same then multiply by 1.67 in the case of modern cable (2.5/1.5=1.67) so a reading r1 = 0.60 ohm becomes 0.6 x 1.67=1.002 therefore you expect around 1 ohm reading then when crossing over E to...

    R1 + R2 expected readings

My meter wont work for live testing of R1/R2! Anyway before testing R1 or R1/R2 I always tell any trainess with me to calculate if first so that you know what you should expect before you begin testing. If there is a significant difference you know something is wrong. You can easily google...

External lux and movement sensors for external car park

Can anyone recommend light sensors (independent) for a large car park. Must have lux and movement control. To switch around 20 lights on at a time. Load might typically be in the order of <750w. the car park is roughly 80m long and 50m wide, very roughly. There are a few corners Kind of like a...

Best way of fixing boxes to crumbly walls.....

Bonding plaster with a screw in the centre is my preferred method.

    Posi joist wiring ref

Essentially this is to determine the derating factor. I might say 103, although not surrounded by insulation of >100mm the UFH might cause the ambient temperature to be equivalent. Would need to know more about expected UFH temperature for derating first. What is the cable for sockets or...

Attaching Fluorescent Batten flush to wall. Please help.

I don't usually use the slotted holes for fixing the batten, there are a number of round holes apart from the slots to use. The problem you may find is the cable entry to the light. If you are going from the wall directly into the base of the light then no problem. If you are entering the...

    Socket on party wall

I am sure that the adjoining wall on a chimney should, or is usually double skin not single skin. I think there is something wrong with the construction there.

    Socket on party wall

I don't know if you use your chimney for fires, if you do there is a distinct possibility of carbon monoxide escaping to your neighbour. Of course this is by no means satisfactory and they need to site to the side of their chimney rather than on the party wall. I assume they are not using their...

A question for those who did the domestic installers course and are now registered with a scheme.

Not quite the sort you mean but yes (ish) I have been at it for 50 years now. I do commercial and domestic. I did a 2397 which in essence is portfolio to level 3 installation I&T and verification. At the time I did a 2395 and was told the 2397 as a level 3 I&T&V, counted as the 2394. Anyway I...

    Could PAT testing cause damage??

Have you tried any other print-outs, such as reports on wi-fi connection etc? It would be advisable to contact megger and ask them about this scenario anyway?

Is this "surrounded by insulation or on 100mm insulation in your opinion?

Hi @aankhka as you can see above I can go 102 by horizontal wall installation and use 4mm. I don't think cost and practical wise 10mm is going to work on sockets especially two 10mm!

    Reasonable quotes for new-installation

Most Ring Final Circuits must then not comply throughout the British Isles as 16 sockets is standard on an RFC pretty well universally @westward10 It does say in regs that any amount of sockets is acceptable on a RFC. Looking at recommended sockets at safety first org they even encourage the...

Is this "surrounded by insulation or on 100mm insulation in your opinion?

Curious to know why you call spurs "the devils work" @pc1966. Is it because they like melting down when loaded with immersion elements and the like?

Is this "surrounded by insulation or on 100mm insulation in your opinion?

Thinking about it if I got out of the ceiling and went horizontal along the walls I would be Ref:102 which would assist me and get me up to 27a rating with 4mm.
