No L-L end to end on ring main

I've only been banned twice actually. nowt much changes though! I thought people doing I&T were supposed to be of a certain sort of experience level? Just saying.

    18th Edition - Exam only

Just watched a couple of JW's videos of the 18th, what a load of utter tripe. Just goes to show that the old white haired guy's at the IET must definitely be in league with the scams, it is so obvious to me that it is just a money earner. They should be ashamed of themselves, making hard working...

No L-L end to end on ring main

How can someone who is doing an inspection and test not have much of an idea of how to fathom out why it has failed?? Answers on a postcard.

    18th edition question

All this "give the customer the option" is a complete load of nonsense. For a start they will just go for the cheapest option, plus the sparky providing the quote is supposed to be the expert, heaping the responsibility onto the customer is a cop out to justify the ridiculous position the...

    18th Edition - Exam only

Me too Tel. They can keep their poxy course, online or offline. I have decided that I am going to save myself the best part of a grand and opt out of all this nonsense. I am just going to carry on regardless and wing it (ohhh I can hear the tut tut's already). If, by some remote chance, I...

Domestic - What do you normally use?

Your lots invoices must be three foot long. Why don't you just clip it to the wall and then let the plasterer dot and dab straight over the top, or just chase em in and then let him plaster over it? Must take you 2 months to do a rewire with all that arsing about.

    Interesting new socket outlet!

If you follow the link you will see some equally potty plonka has designed a PAPER cycle helmet. Apparently it is able to collapse to make it easy to carry. Probably collapses to make it easier to bash your head in as well.

    Domestic Building services compliance guide

I agree. I've never really got this turning the lights out at night. The power stations still have to keep outputting, and hence leccy is cheap overnight.

    Domestic Building services compliance guide

I went to the lighting section as well. I note that outside lights have to turn off automatically. About 18 months ago the council came and replaced the street light outside my house with an LED one - being as how the original had been on continuously for 6 months prior to this (despite 2 phone...

    Fixing a miss-drilled beam

Yes of course it is load bearing, as regards the boarding and outer layers, and as has been said any weight that needs to go on it, like a roofer. But putting a few holes in the supporting timber (that has probably been designed to take that into consideration) is not going to weaken it in any...

    Fixing a miss-drilled beam

Well I didn't know it wasn't fireproof did I? At least the no-nails helpd up for a decent length of time. On a serious note, I bet no-one gets to go to clink for that either.

    Fixing a miss-drilled beam

This forum is full of people getting their knickers in a knot over being sued, setting houses on fire, being put in prison, electrocuting others and who know's what else for committing all sorts of minor misdemeanours, including this one. How many have you ever known get...

    Fixing a miss-drilled beam

Did I say I had done similar? I would have done the job properly in the first place, but if some fella without a "Part P" qually (joke) has gone and dared to drill a wee hole out of place, I would't fanny about with wooden pegs and sister rafters, complete waste of time. Have you seen the holes...

    Fixing a miss-drilled beam

That's by far the most sensible advice yet given. It's just a few bloody holes for goodness sake. How the hell can a flat roof be properly load bearing, is someone going to put an outdoor Jacuzzi on it? You could have had the job done by now.....

New sub board for shed swa advice.

how the hell does the CPC "vaporise" when the circuit was energised?? If there was a dead short between L-E then the OCPD would have tripped. Sounds a bit iffy to me.

New sub board for shed swa advice.

Yes, I have connected loads of sheds and suchlike to the DNO provided earth. Why wouldn't you? What would you do, provide them with a substandard TT system when there is no need? Do you actually operate in the real world out there or are you just a pencil squeezer?

New sub board for shed swa advice.

I admit it, I've taken those earth's out of their zones, into the oblivion of sheds and summerhouses and.....other places. I don't know what became of them, and I might live to regret it. I'm not going to stop in of a sat'dy night again if this is what it's like.
