Hi guys new to the forum after bit of advice. My family are installing a new shed in the garden and require a lot of power ie few sockets, lights. I am planning of running a swa fed from 32a mcb from the main board to a sub board.
Have a question-
Shall I install the new 32a mcb in the main board on the RCD side or main switch side?
Thanks

John Ware (Senior Engineer in the IET’s technical compliance department) wrote an article in Wiring Matters (Autumn 2005) regarding supplying outbuildings.
I suggest you have a read of it: https://electrical.------.org/media...tdoors-a-supply-to-a-detached-outbuilding.pdf
Pretty certain that if there is a prohibition against exporting a PME earth, he would not advise doing so.
ER G12 section 6. Enjoy.

Can you get me a free regs book then?
£82 osg and bs7671
Maybe a stress reliever/squeeze book thing if I ask?!

Is this outbuilding in a neighbour's field or something? If not It's hardly exporting the earth. As far as the dno is concerned you can treat your whole garden, an acre if you have it as an equipotential zone, then mesh under the soil to bond it all.
That's basically what they do in substations to make a zone. They just don't want two neutral derived earths from different legs exported to the same place.

Because it is in the HOUSE and running through the fabric of the HOUSE and in the HOUSE equipotential zone...because it’s an extraneous conductive part.....and not with a strap but with an SWA gland 134.1.1
think you need to look up the meaning of extraneous.

Extraneous-conductive-part: A conductive partliable to introduce a potential, generally earth potential, and not forming part of the electrical installation (4).9 Dec 2016

so in effect, you are saying that SWA is not part of the electrical installation???? Bollox..

So Jcamerz (that's the OP to those who have forgotten), I think you have been given a lot of useful information in this thread on how to proceed with the work.

You may need to earth the armour or you may not. If you do earth the armour then earth it at the supply end, or perhaps not. Read the EAWR fully from cover to cover as they will offer valuable help with this installation but of course they are not for domestic installations unless carrying out the work on a friday.

Enjoy your shed supply :)

Bigbob1 .... according to the forum you have only started 1 thread .... back in 2010 ....... and hardly contributed since ...... is there any wonder that people aren’t taking you seriously ?
I think it’s more that the opinion he is promoting is rubbish than anything else.
People disagree with me all the time, but at least I can produce Reg. Nos. and what not to back my point of view.

Given that, it probably makes sense to TT the shed, unless you can be sure it doesn't act as an extraneous-conductive-part. (The SWA won't have...
