I was going to ask the same. Before I joined a scheme I carried out Minor Works, Notifiable works via LABC, and EICR’s. How can the NICEIC ‘not allow’ a competent person from doing EICR’s?
Personally, I find myself telling customers not to try to replace sockets that are on a ring final. In my mind I can see a conductor popping out (loss of ring continuity) when fastening up, no testing carried out and all none the wiser....
Another vote for two way two wire switching - so no permanent lives expected in switch or light.
From what you are saying there is single core and earth at the switch but twin and earth at the light - so I suppose there must be a junction box in there somewhere to get a neutral to the light?
Yes you can.

Good to hear the opposite argument, and I did try to convince myself to ‘let it go’ and leave it be, but my way of thinking is that if you are having to work hard to persuade yourself something’s OK probably isn’t the right way to approach things.
I think the original...
I’ve taken it down. It’s not compliant.
I wasn’t happy with it, and have an understanding customer happy to pay for my time. I’m sure she’ll let John Lewis know.
I think I might send them an e-mail.
Just put this light up.
35mm gap between the shade and ceiling - you can get your hand in and touch the chock blocks.
Not right is it.
Not sure I can work around so I guess it’s got to come down.
Not good.
As above really.
I've been trying to source a length of mains voltage LED tape to fit behind a purlin, not being keen to try and hide a transformer/driver for 12/24v.
Distance is 4.5m but everything I have found at mains voltage is cut by the metre.
I know I can do better than that because I...
I too have just about given up on EICRs. I quote £120 - which is barely worth it as I tend to do it properly and make a day of it.
I don't get any takers.
Good questions but I honestly don’t know. I’d say it’s between the customer and the builder and I’ve got to be especially careful to cover my self with plenty of images, test results and certificates.
Come to think of it certificates are going to be a nightmare. Cross connected circuits and all...
It was not originally intended to render it - unless there was a mis-communication. Even it was planned it’s still bad. Bricks stacked on top of each other?! Surely we learn to stagger bricks when we play with Lego. Mortar beds are pretty much non-existent in places.
Anyway - no other houses...
