    Hardwiring under cabinet lights

Can you use an FCU with flex outlet? https://www.screwfix.com/p/schneider-slimline-13a-switched-fused-connection-unit-flex-outlet-white/3211j Then you keep the right fuse rating for the LED driver.

Have I got a big problem!?

Oven and hob for 6.8kw seems a bit light. Whilst modern ovens can just about run on a 13A plug (say 3kw), a typical 4 ring induction hob will be rated up to about 7kW.

    100a Isolation Switch Cost

I had this work done recently... I needed to upgrade the tails between the meter and the CU from 16mm to 25mm and chose to add an isolation switch at the same time so that I could isolate my house CU and wiring without having to pull the fuse or break any seals in future... The electricity...

Wireless smoke detectors - advice needed

So here is what I'm thinking... 1) Master bedroom EI208WRF battery CO, wireless - not for any big reason except that it's the main tenant's bedroom and it will go off if anything else in the system triggers 2) Three other bedrooms - nothing (but maybe...another 3 CO detectors and I can say it's...

Wireless smoke detectors - advice needed

So the reply from AICO was: "As per legislation for rental properties in England, the legal requirement is only one smoke alarm per floor & CO alarms for solid fuel burning appliances. (Meaning in the eyes of the law you could use battery only detectors). However, best practice would stipulate...

Wireless smoke detectors - advice needed

This I already have, albeit alkaline batteries and not linked. But it gets really confusing when BS EN 50292 appears to say that you need CO detectors in: Rooms that have any fuel burning appliances – such as an open fire, gas cooker or boiler Rooms where people spend the most time – such as a...

@JK-Electrical many thanks for all the detail, I can make a plan from this.

Wireless smoke detectors - advice needed

I worked through the brochure, I think those three are the only ones available that are fully battery powered. All the multiple sensors (combined CO/heat or optical & heat) are only mains with battery backup. But the new standards (BS EN 50292:2013) more or less come down to a CO detector in...

Wireless smoke detectors - advice needed

OK, I've asked. Interestingly, the alarm selector function on their website doesn't seem to offer the battery only models. Anyway, we'll see what they suggest. Thanks all

Wireless smoke detectors - advice needed

My rented out house (in UK) currently has basic battery smoke detectors in hall and landing, CO detector in utility room (boiler is there) and can't remember the kitchen. My agent is pushing me to provide white goods and, post-Grenfell, I'm nervous about some of these, especially the tumble...

UK Can't get within maximum load when applying diversity

Diversity is an excuse to downrate a calculated cable size. Fundamentally it ----u-me-s that you don't use all of the appliances all of the time. But when it gets cold everyone will switch on their personal heater. IMO for your risk assessment you need to do a realistic load calculation based...

    Finding replacement LED driver

I have in LED light which has stopped working. It's well-travelled, made in China, bought in Azerbaijan and installed in the UK. I assume the problem is with the LED driver, picture included. Made by Guo Xin, model GX-F36x1W for which an internet search reveals...nothing! So how do I find a...

Stroma Certification Scheme NAPIT bought out Stroma?

No proof at all - only that NAPIT own some B shares in a Stroma subsidiary, evidenced by the mortgage document. Could be 50%, could be less, unlikely to be more. The name of the Stroma subsidiary implies that it is connected with supplier certification, but OTOH its a very new company...

Stroma Certification Scheme NAPIT bought out Stroma?

According to this morgage document NAPIT hold 100 Class B shares in Stroma Installer Certification Limited (SICL) - that strongly suggests that A.N.Other holds at least 100 Class A shares. SICL was only incorporated on 24/12/2018 and has almost no info at Companies House. At the time of...

    Robot mower boundary cable

Anyone know what kind of cable this really is: https://www.amazon.co.uk/genisys-boundary-robotic-copper-Length/dp/B07NDKBK73/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=robot+lawnmower+cable&qid=1559134525&s=gateway&sr=8-4-spell It seems extremely expensive compared to, say, 0.75mm flex (half the price) or even 1mm...

Need Advice - New Kitchen Rewire

Diversity is an excuse to downrate a calculated cable size. Fundamentally it ----u-me-s that you don't use all of the appliances all of the time. But when you are cooking, in all likelihood that's exactly what you do. I've seen newer 5-ring induction hobs rated up to 11kW, but ovens rated low...

    Identifying live cables

As an amateur DIYer I bought a volt stick once, all of a tenner from Screwfix or suchlike. Tried it on a cable I knew was live, not even buried. It didn't light up. Decided I did not want to risk my life for a tenner. Took back for a refund.
