    Weird RCD Issue...

We have a race trailer in which runs off both single phase and 3 phase. A contactor for each, which activates when plugged in, with the single phase all phases linked. The DB has a 100ma upfront RCD incomer, then 30ma Europa RCBO's. In 99% of scenarios there will also be a 30ma RCD on the...

    Who's on furlough then?

This is a list of businesses that must shut down: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/875247/240320_Revised_Guidance__002_.pdf As we are not forced to close, and business is not effected (as months of work ready to be done). I would...

    Who's on furlough then?

Nope, told its not applicable to my industry (coach building/motorsport hospitality/race trailers). Boss says as we have not been told to shut, and we can stay 2 metres apart, and do not travel outside the workshop, we are not eligible to be "furlough'd" And TBH i would rather work, 3+ weeks...

Am i being cynical, or co-incident of failure....

I work in coach building, mostly motorsport artic trailers. These usually have a 32A 3PH supply. I fit these with a phase correct relay, to stop some numbnuts mixing phase and neutral up on a hook-up (landline) cable. We have just had one back with some issues including: Phase relay faulty...

Any recommendations for a light weight electric screwdriver?

Just got myself one of these, got mine for £200 delivered! https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07B57D9V8/ref=psdc_1939023031_t1_B07N7X9C32?th=1 Works really well for the purpose designed for. backbox screws and terminal screws are a revelation as the motor winds the screw in, they you just give it...

    Push wire switches & sockets

French F Type sockets seem to be push fit with loop in/out. We did a trailer for a French customer. They were a complete pain in the arse, I had ran 20A radials in 2.5mm flex. The 2.5 was too big to fit correctly into the terminals!! So ended using lever wago's behind with 1.5 going into the...

Whats the furthest you've travelled for a simple job?

    Drill bits

I use steel conduit cutting compound on the hole saw when drilling steel. Massively increases hole saw life.

    Ferrule Crimps

Yep, use thousands of the things, as all the cabling in our installations (hospitality trailers) is in flex. I would not use a screw terminal on flex without a ferrule.

Dodgy trade pictures for your amusement! - 1 Million Views!

Interesting one I found the other week, nice laser cut and labelled front panel (sorry no picture), yet they couldn't think of a better solution for the earth and neutral bars other than a choc block!

People who should not be left anywhere near electricity......

Im an electrician in a factory. This morning a Labourer ran over a 32A 3 phase trailing socket with a genie!! Then picks up the cable with now 5 cores sticking out and no socket, shouts Might need your help. At which point I shout at him to put the cable down, as I may be still live, so he...

Whats the furthest you've travelled for a simple job?

No way, its more a case of keeping a major sports entity happy, for when a big job (involving 100's of thousands of £) comes along. I worked out it would have cost easily £700 for me to be sent, just to take a look! Anyway, I got there on Monday and decided it was toast! Water ingress into...

Whats the furthest you've travelled for a simple job?

I have to travel from Bristol to near Edinburgh in Scotland on Monday, all just to look at a motorised satellite dish on a hospitality trailer that is not working...... I would so love it, if I find out its just a loose cable... Im not so sure on the economics, however as a good employee, I...

I never install ring circuits, the potential for danger is unacceptable

I work mostly in coach building/mobile hospitality building, We very rarely use ring finals for sockets for the following reasons: layouts are always being messed with, so easier to change not having to keep in a ring. If a cable gets damaged in transit, we only loose a small circuit covering...

    Going back to employment....

Thanks, well we had a discussion today and agreed on £40K Salary for 44 hours a week (with Sat morning). Working away and any excess hours will be overtime (£17.50/H). Standard holidays etc and no company van (dont need one, its only 5 min drive from my home!) So i think im 90% going to go for...
