How can anyone think this is acceptable ...

What a load of tripe from some on here. If some stopped the constant, boring NICEIC bashing and focused on the real issue perhaps matters would be clearer. NICEIC area engineers certainly encourage contractors to minimise the use of “live” testing wherever practical, simply to reduce risk of...

CPC used as interconnect on smoke detectors

“The following changes to this standard, all supported by the responses to the consultation, are also proposed: to allow specified types of sealed long-life battery alarms as well as mains-wired alarms - reflecting the availability of appropriate technology and will encourage compliance; to...

NICEIC Certification Scheme NICEIC Assessment 17th edition

If it’s on your card, then IMO that’s sufficient. Of course, you should double check with NIC.

CPC used as interconnect on smoke detectors

Pirate, Can you tell me exactly where you have read that 10yr battery only radio interlinked detectors will be acceptable when the Scottish legislation is changed? Tia

CPC used as interconnect on smoke detectors

No I’m not M, that’s why I posed the question. The Scottish Gov recently announced that the standards which currently apply in new build and private rented (mains supplied and interlinked smokes in the main living area, hall and heat in kitchen) are to be applied to existing owned and public...

CPC used as interconnect on smoke detectors

Where have you taken the above info from? Do you understand that 10 yr battery, radio linked will meet the revised Regs (ie not hard wired & radio linked)?

Hager Duplex Cu and KRN190 Neutral connector

There is a revised board to accept the new compact rcbos. The only difference I can see is that is has a comb busbar which sits further back than the busbar on the earlier version of the board. The current mcbs fit it though. Might this be what the wholesaler was referring to?

    Di-Log DL9118 mft for sale

I have a brand new, unused Di-Log DL9118 mft for sale. Retails at around £535, looking for £400 with free postage. Maybe not as sexy as Megger/Fluke, but a well spec'd tester with a good reputation. We got in part payment for a job done in an electrical wholesalers(!) a couple of months ago...

Isolation for 3 phase domestic installations

I’m inclined to think that 537.1.4 was written with the presumption that in domestic premises, the supply will typically be single phase. Where there is a three phase supply in domestic premises, I always provide 4 pole isolation to meet the spirit of this Reg. I understand that in some parts...

    Sub main protection, views please.

In this case, not a 3 phase board, but three single phase boards, each served by one phase of a three phase supply.

    Sub main protection, views please.

Thanks guys, helpful. Supplementary Q.... if you were providing o/c & additional protection to this submain, what setup would you use?

    Sub main protection, views please.

Fair point Westy, but our view was to have the submain meet current standards of protection. You think it’s ok to leave as is?

    Sub main protection, views please.

Domestic, three phase supply, one phase to each of three consumer units. Two consumer units are local to the intake, the third CU is on the first floor. Currently the first floor CU is fed via a fused isolator at the intake. The replacement CU will be rcbos. However, we thought this submain was...

Bonding to Gas and water am2

Sorry, that’s nonsense. Either individual conductors to gas and water, or one single, continuous conductor serving both.

    Release electrical certificates

Well, of course he could issue certs, but if his work was subject to building warrant then the BC is not likely to accept them for warrant purposes.

    Question on supply cable Earthing

If you’re not happy with the incoming earth, then contact the local DNO - if they provided the earth, then they have a duty to maintain it at no cost to the home owner. They may upgrade to tnc-s.

Ze, pefc and PSCC on am2

Yep, 2 lead low on a newer megger is possible too, your readings may be higher than you might expect tho.

Ze, pefc and PSCC on am2

The supply to AM2 boards may be via an rcd. Just ask the assessor on the day and use the 3lead low test if it is; if not, just two lead high.
