    IR test on lighting circuits

So, as I thought, most folk are obviously not being honest on their forms, which then leads you to think what other false readings are they putting down? Surely better to be honest ? Thanks for the help , a lot of good people on this site .

    IR test on lighting circuits

whilst carrying out EICR I usually find it near impossible to disconnect all loads ( on lighting especially) I there fore only carry out IR on Line and neutral to Earth. However, when I see most other certs, they claim to have recieved 299 ohms on live to neutral? Am I missing a trick, or am I...

    Cables through drilled joists

Hello peeps, just looking for clarification on my practices here . In the past , I have taken many cables through the same hole drilled in a joist . Mostly lighting and smoke detector cables , not heavily loaded ones , but on site , time is sometimes critical. Have I followed " normal practice...

    Shower isolator

The original poster seemed to ask a perfectly posed question on an electricians help forum. He has , however received the the , not unusual for here , holier than thou response. Is this place filled with people who only go by the book to the exact letter? On topic, I think the answer is it is...

Back box lugs and cross threads.

It's certainly a handy tool to have. There is a fair amount of poorly threaded boxes on the market.

Notching the side of a joist?

I've come over lots of notched joists in my 30 years as a sparky. And almost , not quite but for nearly all these houses have fallen down.

Low voltage between live and neutral

You've lost a neutral mate. I'd guess you are getting a path back through earth , or as mentioned a poor connection

Pete's Videos How to ensure your earth is OK, Yank style

    Testing and certification software

Hopefully I have put this in the right place. Any advice or guidance on software for EICR and installations? Been using paper versions for years but I suppose I must move with times at some point!! Most idiot proof is I suppose the top criteria Thanks in advance

    Awkward Customer.

I think the lap stuff is okay. How exactly does the customer expect you to rewire the house without any disruption? It just dosent make any sense. Sometimes you've got to stand up for yourself and tell people the truth, even if it's not what they want to hear. Good luck, I think you will need it!!

Ring Main Tripping Rcd And Connected With Main Earth

My guess , and it's only a guess, is that there is joint box hidden somewhere which has become damaged or saturated. Does your LxL ExE NxN continuity make any sense? If you can use cables which are reading clear and maybe make two radials and leave any bad cables disconnected and made safe , at...

    Earth Connection On Boat

Thanks for reply. It is a wooden cabin cruiser. That's the best I can explain!, What I meant regarding rcds is we back them up by means of a cpc, in the event the rcd does not operate . I can't get my head round how a boat achieves this path to earth? I'm probably not explaining it well, or...
