Just Had A Power Outage. Should I Be Concerned?

I would very much doubt it has anything to do with what your electrician has tested and by coincidence you have an appliance which has developed a small fault which your rcd is detecting.

    Help with RCCB please

It sounds like a neutral to earth fault somewhere in the installation. This is of course , a very vague guess and it would require someone with the correct test instruments to further investigate the problem. If your installation was running fine, then something has changed, usually it is human...

Main bond to rubber incoming water pipe.

The rubber (plastic ) pipe does not require to be bonded to earth. There is a test to prove this for conformation. The lack of certification could be a problem, but like all problems, can be overcome . In this instance , normally by a EICR. Any remedial work would then have to be addressed. It...

    Proving structural steel is bonded

Carrying out some EICR on a commercial/industrial site. Previous records state the structural steel is bonded, and visually I can see 4x 25mm Earth wires leaving the main earth bar, I cannot trace the one going to the steel , though I suspect one of these does. How do I prove this? Is it a case...

    Yesterday’s callout - a close call

I think you have done the correct thing. I would assume it is the bad connection at the terminal which has caused this problem. Did you test the cable ? I would assume that once you had removed the damaged part , the cable would test ok? Many showers , which have been replaced , are running on 6...

18th edition final changes released by IET

Sorry to repeat myself here , but I'm just interested in other people's take on a couple of things in the report. Will it be deemed unacceptable to clip a cable on a joist , above a bedroom ceiling using twin and earth clips? And are they saying a copper gas pipe which has a plastic covering ...

18th edition final changes released by IET

So, do people read that as , cables clipped on a joist , above a bedroom ceiling are no longer permitted to be held up with t&e clips? The sheathed metallic pipe is a strange one as well. Surely it still brings in a potential to the building? I'm not convinced all these engineers totally...

TNS system or not what do you think?

It appears to be a system with no earth . Unless the cable from the rod goes straight into the DB. Did you do any testing to obtain a ze? I've come across this in the past , with both very high and very low readings. On the low readings , I've not always ascertained where they are getting there...

    Vintage electrical items

I've got some old hand wynd meggers. At the very least they are 50 years old, probably more , they are in my attic. Is there a market for them does anyone know?

    Anyone Work on live D.B

With the correct knowledge , equiptment and ppe it sometimes is the only practical option. If possible then get it turned off.

fed up with mixed information from comaonies re domestic applainces

Unless I am reading it wrong, it appears to be a single oven, so more than likely 13 amp. They also seemed to have confirmed it has a plug ? If it has to be an isolator , you could just use a standard cooker one which fits horizontally on a twin back box. The maximum load you have been given (...

Undercut by the builder down the pub!

£20 was too cheap anyway. If she had someone willing to come out on a Sunday, why did she even bother phoning you?

    No bonding!! How many times?

I didn't mean to dislike your post, it's just my fat finger pressing the wrong emoji Thanks for your input ,

    No bonding!! How many times?

So what do you do Risteard? I am a boring stickler for the rules , but I do question myself , and the regs wondering if I am fulfilling a needless task . Especially in the days of RCDs . I understand these can fail and all other options need covered , but I suppose I wish I understood the...

    No bonding!! How many times?

Just wondering what other sparkys experiences are on this. Whether I am carrying out an EICR , or installing a new circuit in a premise ( usually domestic) I would estimate that main and supplementary bonding is not in place around 20% of the time . Whether that is its never been in place or...

    Name that brand! Double socket

I think it may be a proteus, but it really is much of a muchness. Even if you get an exact match, it's going to look out of place being all new and shiny anyway.

    Annoying newbie alert

Good luck to you. You might want to try a local sparky ' lots of small firms struggle to get decent labour. If you start off on a lower rate you may just get your foot in the door, then the balls in your court.

    IR test on lighting circuits

40 mins!!! It takes me 40 minutes to get set up and take the client details and readings from the supply!!! My friend also had EICR done through a letting agent , 8 circuits , the guy was there an hour! I'm either really slow, or too thorough, or maybe both!!
