Black Friday Trade Deals 2017 (Tool ------...)

Apparently me and the wife need to sit down tomorrow and order all my son's presents for Xmas and his birthday (which is just after Xmas). Doesn't look like I'll have any money left for new tools.

How to trace a break in a cable? In a wall!

Remember, to replace the cable doesn't mean you actually have to remove the old one. You can just disconnect it and forget about it, and concentrate on installing the new one.

How to trace a break in a cable? In a wall!

And that's what you have received. But I get the impression it's not what you want to hear. It's your house, your cable, so your decision!

How to trace a break in a cable? In a wall!

OP, with all respect, you admit you energised this in the knowledge it hadn't been tested. This in itself was unwise. By the time you have hired a tester, figured out how to use it, realised you likely will still need to punch holes in ceiling and wall anyway, it would be easier and probably...

How to trace a break in a cable? In a wall!

But do you know how to use a tester? It's a bit pointless anyway if you've already confirmed a break in the cable. That cable needs replacing, really.

I'm glad you said that Tel, I have an Aldi set and a Superod set. Was a bit embarrassed to mention the Aldi ones but for most jobs they're actually alright!

    New extension Kitchen appliances

Freezers could go unnoticed if power lost, fridge freezers and fridges not so much, people tend to notice the light isn't working!

    New extension Kitchen appliances

The idea behind having the fridge and/or freezer on dedicated circuit(s), and ideally on RCBOs, is to minimise the risk of those appliances being affected by issues with other appliances or circuits. It may or may not be more work, but if you have the chance to do a good job now, then why not...

    New extension Kitchen appliances

You really need an electrician. If you use 2.5 then you will have to use a 20A breaker. That could well be overloaded with those appliances. Also it isn't a great idea to have fridge and freezer on with other stuff....given the opportunity these could go on dedicated circuits.

Well technically you can only put 4mm^2 on a 32A MCB if it's installed ref method C for it's whole length. Are there any other derating factors?

    I wouldn't have those 4 on a 20A breaker.

    Kitchen Halogen lights to LED

Tell me about it. I do want to reduce the number one day but it's hardly at the top of my to do list. I preferred it when they had 20W halogens in them, was much more subdued.

    Cable that can't be removed

I always try to remove as much old cable as I can on rewires etc., but draw the line at causing unnecessary damage just to get it out. That scrap belongs to the homeowner Midwest! :santa:
