Apparently me and the wife need to sit down tomorrow and order all my son's presents for Xmas and his birthday (which is just after Xmas). Doesn't look like I'll have any money left for new tools.
Remember, to replace the cable doesn't mean you actually have to remove the old one. You can just disconnect it and forget about it, and concentrate on installing the new one.
OP, with all respect, you admit you energised this in the knowledge it hadn't been tested. This in itself was unwise. By the time you have hired a tester, figured out how to use it, realised you likely will still need to punch holes in ceiling and wall anyway, it would be easier and probably...
I'm glad you said that Tel, I have an Aldi set and a Superod set. Was a bit embarrassed to mention the Aldi ones but for most jobs they're actually alright!
The idea behind having the fridge and/or freezer on dedicated circuit(s), and ideally on RCBOs, is to minimise the risk of those appliances being affected by issues with other appliances or circuits. It may or may not be more work, but if you have the chance to do a good job now, then why not...

Tell me about it. I do want to reduce the number one day but it's hardly at the top of my to do list. I preferred it when they had 20W halogens in them, was much more subdued.
I always try to remove as much old cable as I can on rewires etc., but draw the line at causing unnecessary damage just to get it out. That scrap belongs to the homeowner Midwest! :santa:
