Shed supply from new build property

As far as I know PME is not allowed for REMOTE EV chargers. It is acceptable if fitted onto the building which it is supplied from.

Domestic wireless burglar alarm system recommendations

Hi guys, after some recommendations re a decent wireless alarm system. It's a new build house all completed. I'm a retired electrician with very little experience with hard wired alarm systems and none whatsoever with wireless. I'm thinking if possible, 2 x door contacts, (1 x E/E) 2 x PIR's...

Shed supply from new build property

Hi guys, as the title suggest. Friend of mine buying a brand new house from a reputable and well established builder. however it has already been 1st fixed. He\asked the builder if he could have an U/G supply taken out to the detached shed. Yes they could, no problem. Method. To tap off the...

    lighting in the metal shed

I believe you can have the SWA connected to the home earthing arrangements, in this case TNCS. At the shed consumer unit when terminating the SWA use a plastic compression gland only. This will then separate the SWA earthing from the shed earthing arrangements. As the shed is of metal...

    Anyone tried these out? ....................

Weren't these products first featured on Dragons Den? They demonstrated how strong they were holding a radiator on a plaster board partition wall. Peter pulled it off the wall!

Looped house cable no wayleave agreement or deeds of easment

Believe it or not, you have more power (pardon the pun) without a way-leave agreement. If you had one and received payment, you would have to give notice to terminate agreement. That in turn can take years to short out. All you have to is, write/phone to your DNO supply company and ask that the...

Does this setup contravene any regs or is it ok?

Bit random: When designing an installation, should the distribution board/consumer unit have 25% spare capacity when installation completed?

    Cables and cavity walls

Interesting, I wouldn't class an external cavity wall as a void myself. Cables can not be supported in cavity walls. Insulation also cavities. OK, do electricians still install cables within cavity walls? I also thought that even PVC/PVC tails between the OMB and consumer unit could not be...

    Cables and cavity walls

Re drilling through cavity walls. Was just an example. Many Sky installers drill straight through cavity walls. Gas plumbers also. Cavity wall installers installers drill into the cavity. As for Reg No., no, I don't know. But correct me if I'm wrong, has not installing cable within external...

Can you wire two Pyros into one socket?

Why not leave the existing MICC socket as it is , but replace the actual socket itself. Remove skt box on the left and replace it with a new twin socket box. Flush 2nd box about half inch from existing MICC box. That way, all neat and tidy, plus you will have 3 x sockets.

    Cables and cavity walls

Cables in external cavity walls are not allowed. Another reason why not, is that a 3rd party might hit them when drilling through wall to install TV cables etc

    Static Caravan 100ma OK ?

All caravans--No PME allowed. Most sites are TT earthing. All touring caravans must be 30ma RCD protected but can be TN-S earthing

    Removing small section of coving

No need to remove coving at all. As said above, chase up to under side. I used to drill upwards with a 10mm long masonary bit. Also used a bent cold chisel to remove plaster behind the coving. No need to get directly above, but easier if you can.

    Ryefield CT chamber wiring

Check with your DNO if they have any requirements Some DNO's insist on an isolation switch be fitted

    Shower supply problem

Check that no other circuits are on with the shower i.e cooker circuit. Check correct size cable used in the first place.

Just below the soil surface in my front garden!

It's called hybrid cable. Generally DNO's cable 450mm deep. My area usually in 32mm PVC ducting and yes marker tape used But when builders developers install service cables, it has been known that corners are cut. No doubt DNO (old electricity Boards) in the past have done the same.

    Maximum age of wiring

Agrees with above comments. Have an EICR carried out. I not too sure about any actual time span given for cables. Many years ago 25 years was a given guideline for rubber cables. Some didn't get there, others went way past it!
