I think that for an out of hours callout on Christmas Eve, £90 (plus vat) is pretty reasonable.
However, as in this case, if I was already working in the vicinity and it was an existing customer and it was a trivial job, I would have chopped the invoice price in half.
If I can, I use one of these 50A DP switches, usually in an adjacent cupboard. I also fit them for cookers where possible, again in a cupboard. Loads of space for termination of large cables and two screws per terminal. Zero risk of burning out.

An easy check as to whether an appliance is using power is to feel it. If you can't detect any warmth, then it won't be using any significant amount of power. Remember that it will take a while to cool down after use.
A modern phone charger will be taking less than 1 watt when plugged in but...
It's the back of the dishwasher that gets warm with the very hot water sloshing around. Anything pressed against it will sink into the soft tarry sound/heat insulation.
If an extra core carrying no/negligible current made a significant difference to the heat dissipation, then there would be separate columns for 3 phase 3 core and 3 phase 4 core.
If you use 3 core SWA for a single phase circuit, it won't dissipate as much heat as the same cable used for a 3 phase circuit running at the same current. I use the 'single phase' column values in the current carrying capacity tables.
Two way switching of the socket supply may be possible, subject to various considerations including voltage drop and earth fault loop impedance.
There may be better ways, such as wireless control or use of an impulse relay which would allow the switching to be done in low current cable and...
Really need to go up to the T110 to allow elimination of 'ghost' voltages. It has switchable input impedance by pressing a switch on each probe. Drops input impedance from 200k to 7k.

The point is that there is no special danger to the MET. It is likely to be connected to gas and water pipework, along with any metal taps, baths, sinks, boilers, etc. If the consumer unit is metal, it'll be connected to that too.
So there's no additional safety to be gained by covering this...
