Take a look at the Little Giant ladders. I have a six rung one that's good for lighting jobs on high ceilings and stairs.

I'll occasionally use a toolbelt. Currently using the Toughbuilt system. Loads of different sizes of pouch to choose from. They clip on and off the belt as required so, for example, if you've finished drilling for a while, you can just unclip the drill holster with the drill in it and put it to...
Not true. On every RCD that I'm aware of, it's an electrical test. Done using a fixed resistor between incoming line and outgoing neutral (or vice versa) to create the current imbalance required. It's likely to be at a higher current level than the rated trip differential current, so it's only...
I wouldn't dismiss a connection of two different cable sizes out of hand. I think that it depends entirely on the skill and conscientiousness of the person doing the job and the type of terminal involved. I've seen a pigs ear made of terminating a standard 2.5mm² ring, and I've also made a...
If you're worried about the exposed live parts on the supply side of the main switch, just stick a few layers of tape over them while testing to reduce the chance of accidental contact. Better still, pull the fuse. After all, it'll probably need pulling later to tidy up the terminations or...
Why would you want fire rated fittings if they're housed in recesses in the concrete ceiling? (I assume that the holes for the fittings don't go all the way through the thickness of the concrete.)
Been posted before, but relevant as it shows grid frequency as well as demand and generation:

I recently did an EICR on a house in North End, Portsmouth. I found lots of faults and started on a program of repairs. After a couple of days, I've come to the conclusion that it really needs a re-wire. I don't have the time to do this at present.
It's let out as a HMO, but there's only one...
I find that deliberately untwisting the strands helps a lot to get the termination snug. The strands can then move freely as the terminal is tightened, so reducing the possibility of strands moving later.

Pic of 10mm² into a Crabtree 50A switch on a surface backbox. Both cables in from the top, then looped back from the bottom of the box to give a good length to work with. Most of the sheath removed inside the box. If I can arrange it, it's my preferred switch for showers and cookers.
No point measuring the average usage apart from assessing the likely running cost if metered. You need to ascertain the maximum current on any of the phases to size the cable.
