    used mechanical joints and never had any problems ,thro. crimps ok if you can get the crimper head in ok ,weak back ferules got to be best if youve still got your solder pot and a couple ladles (and nowdays fire extinguishers hot work permits method statements )

    Is that you and the incredible hulk? OK a straight run maybe but the added time by the lack of manpower? once installed 800mtr 70mm pilcswa in a trench at Maryport coal disposal in 1981, 2 guys and a JCB and lots rollers took half a day but sanding and cable tiles took two days

    just highjacking this thread , when i was about 17/18 i was fitting some cond. box lids above a rack of 12 co2 cylinder in an arc furnace mg room and caught the trip wire and set the lot off never seen people run so fast

    Pyrotenax use to supply un-insulated through crimps with their through joints, but you probably wouldn,t get a stranded 2.5 in the through crimp and if you got a 2.5 through crimp it would be slightly oversize for the pyro.What about crimping a 2.5 into un-insulated through crimp insert solid...

    In certain respects i,am glad i retired after 50yr but i still miss it ,i used to look at a job/task and work out the pros & cons, if it could be done safely then do it if youve have doubts don,t do it get a second opinion .
