Older home with no grounding system and pool pump

Hi. Although as Megawatt has mentioned it maybe legal to install a 3 wire receptacale without a ground, I wouldn't say it was advisable to do so, especially where a water pump is concerned. If it's at all possible to provide the gfci outlet with a ground connection, possibly using a copper rod...

    Storm Arwen and Storm Barra

If we get a power cut I have the benefit of running the lights and a few kitchen sockets off batteries and an inverter. I've been using solar panels to charge the batteries and have a couple of automatic transfer switches setup. :)

Earth cables twisted and sheathed together

If more than one CPC is put in the same piece of sleeving, there is the potential for them to be touching enough for good continuity but they may have fallen out of an earth terminal.

    Earthing and Battery supplied Inverters

I didn't know that. Thanks. So would there be a problem with the flame detection with a TT earthing arrangement?

    Earthing and Battery supplied Inverters

Hi All, When I heard reports on the radio of people not being able to run their gas central heating because of a power cut, it got me thinking. Is there any reason a gas boiler couldn't be run on an inverter and a battery? I was thinking there might be a potential issue with some ac making...

The face plate is a SFCU supplying a fan oven. The skulking cable runs to the oven.

You are correct. It is an SFCU. I think the CPC of one leg of the ring somehow ended up too short to reach the earth terminal of the SFCU, so instead of extending it, it was put in a convenient nearby back box earth terminal with no thought for continuity of the ring.

Hmm I wonder why this ring has no earth continuity? I don't think face plate screws are meant to be used as a connector?!

NAPIT Certification Scheme Napit complaint unresolved

Stop tap is dribbling, I can't bond it. What a poor excuse. I'm amazed someone from NAPIT won't even visit. Hopefully they have at least contacted Mr Pratt for a word. On the plastic consumer unit I'd say it was definetly a problem as it could cause the occupier to become trapped if the stairs...

Garage Supply - 2 way metal consumer unit in a seperate garage

Ah, but, if you happened to be touching a metal clad socket and lightning struck a power line and it burned your arm you'd wish you'd put a twig in lol

Garage Supply - 2 way metal consumer unit in a seperate garage

The only thing that's not been mentioned and I'm sure someone will correct me, I was told by an ELECSA assesor that you're not allowed to export a TNCS earth in less than 10mm cable. So, as you can't get an mcb unprotected in the house consumer unit, have a main switch in your garage consumer...

remedial work after an EICR was carried out on a residential property

I think with the example of the socket hanging off, if the client was not contactable and the face plate screw holes were not re tappable, I would remove the socket, put the wires into wagos and silicone a blank plate over the back box.

Bit of a moan about appliances

As you already have a FCU for each appliance, replace the single socket with a connection plate. If any appliance has a fuse in the moulded plug less than 13 amps, put that in the FCU and label the FCU with the fuse rating :-)

Pete's Videos PVC Conduit Master Class

He could have used the tape he used on the twisted joints to mark the ends of the switched lives and then would have got them in the right order. I love the lack of colour coordination too lol

    Chances of this happening!?:-)

That was one flaky piece of plaster board!
