Ok I know I'm just being silly but, just think, what if you have a pull switch cord dangling into a bath? Isn't that just ad dangerous as a wall switch in a bathroom? lol
I think if you take the wording of the regs literally, it says "within 600mm of the consumers side of the Meter or where the pipe enters the building". So if the meters are together in a meter room and the pipe is continuous to the flats, I don't see an issue. Unless of course the block of...
A plug in tester with flashing lights is not a professional piece of equipment. Tell him to get himself a proper tester and then he can argue with you Lol
There is WAY too much reliance on RCDs in other parts of the world. I guess people don;t question getting a shock of ONLY 120v in the bathroom. "Hey man! That's Life!" Lol
Never seen armoured Cat 5 before. Generally if it's in a harsh environment I'd probably used metal conduit. Cos where one Cat 5 cable runs, another usually follows Lol :95:
You also need to consider what will happen if the immersion element causes the RCD to trip overnight in winter. The customer will have no hot water and a chilly flat! :( I'd go the RCBO route for the Immersion and the Storage Heater.:smiley2:
"PS TT systems should be banned, electricity boards should change them to TN-C-S the Ze and Zs on TT's is atrocious "
There is a very good reason for using TT systems in the right locations. If you live on the top of a hill where lightning is likely to strike, do you really want to get fried...
The old RCCBs only reacted to Live to Earth Faults (see the diagram inside the terminal cover). The test button connects a resistor across live and earth which energises the trip coil and switches off the power. I believe an RCD Test leaks current between neutral and earth, so won't trip an OLD...
Simplest way to find out if the bare main earth connects to the water pipe is to turn off the main switch, disconnect the bare earth from the board and test for continuity to the water pipe :-D With regard to RCDs, suggest to the customer the installation of one 30ma RCD in the main tails (the...
You need to consider the type of earthing system on the supply side of the SWA as well. If it's a TT Earthing system it will need some RCD protection at the supply side in case it gets damaged.
A Few pics of some shed stuff I did. Nice BG Consumer Unit, Weatherproof AND accepts RCBOS :-D I turned up to put the full install in and the customer said, Hello...I'm just gonna paint the shed Lol
