Whist looking up something unrelated in section 701, I noticed reg 701.753
Stating that underfloor heating wire in a bathroom must have an earthed sheath or metallic earth grid etc etc & that electrical separation shall not be used
It got me thinking, the underfloor heating wire I used in...
If installing a new 230v AC electrical system in a camper van which has the option of being supplied from an inverter from leisure batteries within the van or from a hook up with a change over switch. What supply characteristics are recorded on the certificate
The inverter side would be an IT...
Just as well as the single-phase version of the matt-e doesn't really offer complete protection against a PEN fault, and also does nothing about the tingles you mentioned
Worth checking there is not any class 1 outside lights or anything like that within reach of the hot tub also, but you have...
I believe this is due to resistance in the supply cables adding volt drop, thus causing a small difference between the PME earth and true earth, it would depend on how far the property is from the local transformer. but as you say problem is gone with TT
Although the water in the tube will be connected to the same earth conductor as the earth mat, so you are in contact with the water and the ground with the earth mat under so the difference in potential should be much reduced
Are the gas and water pipes metal?, if so they will be connected to the TN-C-S earth
2m is too close too buried TN-C-S potential metal work, meaning making it TT will not get rid of the risk due to PEN fault voltage appearing on the TT earth rod.
The TT rod wants to be a decent...
I believe most have metallic heating element housing which are earthed meaning there is a chance the water can rise in potential should a PEN fault occur, although depends on the conductivity of the water and distance to the heating element to dictate how bad the concicences are
Yes earth mat...
Walked past another bit of pavement UKPN have dug up tonight
They have been repairing some cable, they have put 2 new sections of cable in with 4 joints, none of which have electrodes. There is also a smaller joint that has new TN-C-S cable on one side of the joint and an old TNS bitumen...
Interesting stuff,
I thought HV power distribution was delta, so no neutral (star point)
I have no basis for this, other than my own conclusion from looking at 3 wire overhead lines, going to what i presumed were delta to star transformers to step voltage down to 230v (415v) and provide a...
I have noticed that when doing a no-trip loop test with my fluke 1662, sometimes it will trip an RCD but then after reseting the RCD (no other changes) it doesn't trip again, I wonder if the fluke adjusts the current it uses for the test if it knows it tripped the RCD the first time round
David Savery has isolated SWA amour in 2 of his videos, when changing from a TNCS earth to TT, one in his EV charger video and another in his hot tub video, In both case a plastic box was used, As iv said iv used a plastic module enclosure before as it also gives me space for the fault...
