    What's a Plug Socket ??

I suppose i'm over reacting. Had a bad day. Well i'm off now to have a "water shower"...not just a shower......like there's any other type eh.

    What's a Plug Socket ??

I thought "them things" were sockets....just sockets....not plug sockets!

    What's a Plug Socket ??

Just wanted to get something off my chest...... Don't you hate it when a customer asks...can I have an extra Plug Socket. What the hell is a plug socket??? I know a (domestic) plug is typically a 3 pin plug conforming to BS1363, and I know that a (domestic) socket is typically the type we all...

    Caravan outside socket

This may be a daft question, but I have been asked to install an outside socket on a static caravan. As is the norm on a holiday park, the supply is via a 16A 30mA RCBO installed with a meter in a weatherproof enclosure and feeds the van via 2.5mm flex on a 16A 3 pin plug. Usually the norm would...

    No earthing on lighting circuit

Ordered labels from spotlabels.co.uk. cost £5 for 50 that includes my personalised company details and postage. Although for that price I'm not expecting the best quality!

    No earthing on lighting circuit

I stand corrected on my last post, turns out they do make "no provision for earth" labels. I just ordered some. I should have checked before sending post, oops.

    No earthing on lighting circuit

Thanks for all your helpful advice. Just to clarify to the last few posts regarding RCD protection, I was planning on replacing the CU and ALL circuits would have RCD protection. I would not be altering any cables in any circuits, just replacing accessories. Also, I planned to replace all...

    No earthing on lighting circuit

Hi all, I've been asked to make an old 4 story townhouse "safe" and issue cert for renting out. Hasn't been touched for so long it has bakerlite accessories with wood backing! Straight away I'm seeing replace all accessories, replace CU, upgrade earthing. The wiring is all in PVC cables but...

    DOMESTIC INSTALLER BARE MINIMUM REQUIREMENT

Not really an answer but just my opinion....a "bare minimum" crash course in electrics wouldn't encourage me to rush out to hire your services. If not done properly, electricity can kill!! You cannot just learn years of experience from a quick online exam! Most of us aged sparks have had to...

A Russian way of making multiple connections!

The whole process seems a bit extreme and time consuming to me. Have they not heard of push fit connectors? Give me a few Wago lever connectors and a pair of cutters and let's have a race!!!

    Random socket tripping

I don't think anybody said they were "certain" its the outside socket. Just a few comments that it could possibly be that, because of the tripping being worse during bad weather. It would be a good place to start investigating tho. Obviously IR that circuit too.

    summer house supply thoughts

OP laughs about not certifying work in his area to "save a fortune"......no laughing matter I'm afraid....that's how buildings burn and people get killed!

    Random socket tripping

The RCD built into the outside socket only protects what is plugged into it....not the connections behind it which could be wet.

    Random socket tripping

If worse with bad weather, maybe water getting into outside light or socket?

    summer house supply thoughts

Bit worried someone asking these sort of questions are willing to carry out a job that requires notification. A registered sparky would carry out simple cable calcs to work out cable size AND identify where garage socket is fed from. If you suspect the garage socket is fed by a spur off the...

Please help smart people! Battery and cooking simple question...

I can't see why it wouldn't work. However by my calculations... battery AH=2000VA/230v = 8.69 (ish) Load of hotplate 1200w/230v = 5.2A so you should get around 8.96/5.2 = 1.67 hrs of run time..... BUT due to power factors etc realistically run time would be less, more like 1.2hrs (ish). One...

Shed supply from new build property

Agree with other posts. Nothing wrong with it as long as its via 13a fused spur, but you are limited to 13a......also kitchen ring is usually heaviest loaded ring so chances of getting the full 13a in shed without overloading the circuit are small. But simple answer, nothing in regs against it.

    Fuseboard relocation....re-test required?

Oh ye fair enough Murdoch, now I see it from someone else's view. OK guys, I will carry out job, then do a full re-test and issue new cert! Decision made!!! Thanks Allo_O
